Jason's '63 Notch sunroof from the samba archives
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It looks like on early cars, the wing was metal and attached to the car and not part of the plastic corner piece. Talk about rare!!!

I'll get some of mine up in the next couple of weeks. I'm taking it out so I can clean and re-grease the cables. It's been over 10 years since I've done that, and feel it needs to be done again.

Thanks Bob,

now we know there are 3 types of VW sunroof setups, I would like to know for documentation, when they changed from one to the other. This does not include the GOLDE ragtops or Hollandia Refrigerator type slide sunroofs.

At the 2011 Classic, I took pics of most sunroof cars. I only saw two types, even the '62 right hand drive had a mid '60 set up (like mine)

Here are the pics

I think this one is a '64 with early badges.

We just towed home a '67 sunroof square with the OG running engine in it! It has solid heater channels, but the interior is a mismatched mess. Rolling Eyes

Hey guys, Im curious to know if I could put the sunroof section from a 69 squareback into a 66 fastback? As long as the roof lines match up I can just use the pre-existing roof skin and the skeleton of the other.

Does anyone have a picture of the center sunroof guide housing reinforcement plate? Part number 313 877 373. My 65 Variant is missing its and I want to make sure I hunt for the right part.

On that note, how do the T3 plates differ from the T1 plates (117 877 373)? It's interesting that they're not the same, as the lower plastic guide housing and the cover plate are shared between the two.

Look at the second pic. It is the small square tab.

Here is a little teaser Martin, a certain ninja was busy during the holiday weekend Wink

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

After grind the welds down and do a nasty mud job on it I'll stuff in it all the goodies that I have been collecting for the last 2 years. Very Happy

BTW- this is a late notch sunroof, but my panel looks like your early panel. It might be a replacement but the condition and paint were same as the rest of the rusty roof clip.

Ah, thanks! I wonder why the parts book shows it as being more like the shape of the whole guide piece (item 34 in this picture):

Next question: Does anyone have one they'd be willing to part with?

The gear parts are the same as a bug. At least my later 65's parts are. I got most of the parts thru CIP. I just cleaned and regreased my old cables, since they were still good. Cool
