I have a question regarding interior panels... What is the difference between the squareback rear panels and the notchback rear panels. Same year same material.. Are the sizes different in any way? I'm going to buy some from a squareback and I was thinking if they are different I could just use the material and make a new wood board backing to fit the notch. Would this work or is there something else that is different? |
This is what rear squareback panels look like.

What kind of seat material is that? It looks like brown cord but the red paint is throwing me off. _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

Figured this would be the area to ask about swapping in low back seats into my 73 notchback. The high back seats don't work well for me and the seats in my car do not adjust at all and have quite the lean in them. So going to replace them and would rather do some low backs. Any recommendations? |

i think i have a pigalle squareback 67 year. I have read that the 66 model year was the only year that the pigalle option was offered, but i have a 67 with the red and white pinch welt and came with red rear panels black steering whell and column. Can anyone shed some light on this combo. the car is a one key car which is why i think it may be orignal parts. |

The 66 Pigalle model is everything red - dash, carpet, seats, everything.
So you probably have a '67 with the stock red interior.
All 67s are 1-key so that is correct. |
I know that Pigalle fasty is one rare Type 3. Do we have any idea how many of these Pigalle Type 3's were ever produced? Can it be classified now to belong to the rarest of the rare as far as vintage vee-dubs are concerned?

Teak was certainly less common than Pigalle. _________________ Siglines don't hurt people: people hurt people. |

Neither are "rarest of the rare".
I reserve rarest of the rare for stuff I have only seen 1-2 times
(This number open to to opinion of course as the Internet has changed things dramatically)
I have seen at least 5-8 Teak cars and 10-15+ Pigalle cars so not ROTR.
(Update - Probably double those #s if you include Type 34s) _________________ How to Post Photos

Is that so? That is quite a number. I may say the cabrio notch displayed at the Wolfsburg Museum amongst the ROTR... _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

yes the Oz cars had-have different interiors. Up to 63 they are the same as the German ones with the wheel on the RT side. In 64 they made their own with a picture of the salt and pepper 61-63 type on vinyl. It lasted till 65. After that Im not sure.
|
There is also 2 different sorts of the aussie S'n'P vinyl, both have the same pattern printed, but it seems that on early aussie built cars the vinyl is textured and then went to a smooth vinyl. I'll try to get detailed shots to explain. _________________ Click to view image |

I think interiors of Aussie Type 3's have its own design of fabrics used.. Specially the steering wheel used on other models did not have the half moon ring, just like the beetle economy models found herein the Philippines. _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

Just a curiosity here. My first VW was a 69 Square. I loved it but eventually traded for a 59 bus many many years ago. My question is what are the differences in the dash from 61-69 and what are all the knobs and switched for? I have seen a few ads that make it a point to mention that they are "pushbutton" is that something that is desirable? What is considered a good year? I mean like for buses, a bullet turn signal(-61) or small hatch(-63) seems to be a bit more sought after than the big hatch 64-67. Is there a similar view of type 3s? Personally, I do not like the major body change that took place in 1970, I equate that to the change to bays for buses. _________________ "When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep.
