So I've been having what I think is an electrical problem for a few weeks now, but numerous fixes haven't solved the problem. Hopefully you can help me diagnose?

About a month ago, the car was driving perfect, then one day it sounds as if it starts missing every so often. Rarely though, I mean once every 5 minutes or so. Then it all of a sudden the car just dies. No stumbling or backfiring, just dead. The dash lights still worked and my "G" light came on, but the engine stopped working.

I had an old 009 on there that had worked great for the past 5 years, so when I checked the points and arm, both looked mishapen. I figured it was a good time to upgrade to an 019 from Glenn. Bought one from him last week, put it in, and it ran beautifully for about 3 minutes. I timed it and got in to test drive it, but the car suddenly died again the exact same way with the previous distributor. It hasn't started since. Here's what I've looked at:

1. I have an entirely new distributor, cap, and condensor.
2. Spark plugs and wires are about 6 months old (the right bosch wires and NGK plugs).
3. Cleaned out the idle and main venturis on both carbs (DRLA 36's), they're clear. Fuel filter is literally a month old and I can hear the fuel pump hammering away when the car stalls, so that's still working. I can smell the gas when I try to start the car.
4. Ensured all cables from the alternator to the coil are connected and toned-out.
5. Battery is good, 2 months old and still turns the starter
6. No more voltage regulator due to the alternator conversion.

The only thing I can think of is the coil. Any other ideas of what it could be?

Thanks

Yep, turned out to be a bad coil... I love fixing a $300 problem (distributor) when it was a $30 problem. Ah well, at least I have a well-restored 019 from Glenn now.
