4" narrowed beam w/shock towers running stock shocks and 185/65 with a little rubbing. Probably going to a 165 _________________ Speed Leaving Without Warning . . .

Very nice. Why not go with a lower profile in the front? 185/55 or 185/60? |

These tires- 185/65 front & 195/65 rears were off an older rim I was running and before the narrowed beam. I'll be changing to a lower profile but thinking of a disc brake upgrade first. _________________ Speed Leaving Without Warning . . .

You're not as low as the others because you don't have it adjusted as low. If you want to rid of the fender gap, then you'll have to sacrifice beam-to-ground clearance. |
Thanks for the reply! I totally get that. I think, maybe, I thought id want to be lower than i really do once the car hit the ground haha. Ive had my share of cars with vital parts an inch or two off the ground, but wanted to keep this a little more drivable.
Maybe someone could help advise me on a tire size thats a little taller. That way it could adjust the beam to where it is now, but it would fill out the fender better. |
Easy enough to figure out on your own. The 145/65 you are running now is 94.25 tall. Which is a really tiny tire. I got this by multiplying 145 x .65 which gives you the height of the tire. 135's are 80 series (ive been told actually 83 but for simplicity...) which would make them 108
(112). A 185/60 would be 111. Figure out what you need to have and start figuring it up. Also, a lot of tire sites such as Coker, DBTires and others will give you heights for the various tires to help you figure out what you need. Keep in mind, if you stay the same adjustment on your beam, by raising the height of your tire, you will in fact raise the height of the car... |
Thanks for the info! I know it would raise the car a little. I'm after more of a filled out fender, rather than a panscraper so that would work perfect.
The picture I posted is right after the beam install too, so maybe the springs will "settle" after it gets driven since they are new and i'll be happier with the front. |

This is how you calculate rolling diameter of a tire:
145/65/15
145 / 25.4 (mm to inches) = 5.70"
5.70" x aspect ratio of 65%= 3.71" (this is your 94.25 measurement below)
3.71" is the height of the sidewall so multiply 3.71" x 2 = 7.42" (total side wall height)
7.42" + 15" wheel diameter = 22.45 " tall tire AKA rolling diameter

This is exactly how I want my 67 to sit! I have the adjustable beam, but it's stock length. Now I know how narrow I need to go to get the front end where i want it without rubbing. THANKS _________________ ( O \ l / O ) |

This might be the dumbest question ever... but here it goes.
Are all disk brake conversion spindles the same?
And how do I tell what kit I have??
I have a '67 that I bought 13 years ago and drove for a few years on and off until other projects came up (like my bus). It has sat for about 7 years and needs to be completely gone through. I want to start getting serious about it but have no clue what replacement parts to get when I install the new front end because I bought the car with the discs already. I'm pretty sure they are not dropped spindles because with my adjustable factory width beam all the way down the tires barely rub.
Planning on going with a 5'' narrowed and drop spindles but would like to keep the front discs without having to drop another $300 on a new disc kit.
Also, it has Porsche rims and i'm not sure how the offset with the brake kit is going to pan out.... I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed. I've looked around on different topics but none are relevant to my situation.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Evan
