I read somewhere that the beams on later model cars are lower then the body and that the aprons on earlier model bugs are lower then the beam. I don't know how true that is tho. I like the stance of your car.

@FullFender surprisingly well, i assumed it would take a little rethinking after driving it for a while but she tracks straight and flat. the one thing i will be changing is the rear bags. Currently they are Slam Specialty RE8s and they are a little soft under acceleration so i think i will go with RE6s in the future.

Do you get any rubbing with those back tires? I love the way the rear tires fill out the wheel well.

Front:
Airkewld 6" narrowed shockless beam
Airkewld drop spindles
145/65/15 Continentals on stock smoothies
Front fender to ground height: 20.5"

Rear:
Airkewld Adjustable Spring Plates at around 14 degrees
Doestech Shocks
Stock 165/80/15 (soon to be 175/65/15)
Rear fender to ground height 22"

May go lower all the way around if I can pie cut the front pan head. Beam clearance is about .5" right now. Sucks.

@FullFender not anymore. she used to have long axles and before i raised the transmission it rubbed a little. once i raised the transmission i had to swap back in short axles for tire clearance. Very Happy

What is the paint color for those wheels? I have a black '57 with red interior and the wheels are black outside and white inside. I think that red could make a nice new center color.

With all these narrowed beams, how many of you have the tires rub the headlight buckets? I put a 4inch narrowed beam in and even with smart car tires, the tires rubbed the buckets.

If I go with a 3" or 4" narrowed adjustable stock linkpin beam with drum brakes, what mods if any will need to be done to either the shocktowers or the body? Thanks

Has anyone tried a 4" narrowed/lowered link pin beam w/ lowered spindles, disk brakes and 185/55 tires in the front? I want whitewalls, but would like something wider than the typical 135's and also disk brakes. Not really interested in trying portawalls either.

Anyone?

So, I can't say I've tried 185/55's, but I have used 205/40/17" (rims are 40mm offset) on a 4" narrowed, adjustable front end, dropped spindles, and disc brakes with no rubbing issues. I did some quick calculations and best I can figure your tire combo with 15" rims will be 482.75mm (about 19") tall and my 17" are 513.8mm (about 20.2"). As long as you are not pushing out too far you should be ok. This, of course is all calculations with your rims being the variable that I can't account for.
