I'm taking off an adjustable beam to fix stripped threads in the adjuster .
It will go right back together as soon I run a tap through .
can I take off the spindles AND the torsion arms all together ?
Will the leaves pull out with the spindles and torsion arms attached ?

Any tension on the torsion leaves will make it very difficult to remove and impossible to re-assemble.

Yes, but you'll never get them back in. Like joey sez. Try using a 'bottoming' tap. You might be able to chase the threads without taking anything apart.

Yes... you "can" pull both arms together with the spindle and knuckle attached.
Having an adjustable beam and ball joint makes that easier..
But...as the others have said.. it may not be worth the fight.
I will sometimes just take the two non camber/caster adjustment point arms loose (lower) from the knuckle..

The stripped adjuster topic.... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=608556

Cut...eh... grind maybe... but in reality once you pull the lower arms off... and remove the actual short and hidden "grub" screw and slide out the springs, a regular tap will glide right through into the now hollow beam tube so a bottom tap isnt required. .

IMO if the center slug is truly stripped out with no threads, you will most likely have to tap to the next standard size, which means the adjuster slot will need to be enlarged too.
Worst case... simply cut out the adjuster point and install a single new adjuster.

With an adjustable beam it is easy to pull off and reinstall spindles/arms together...

Definitely recommend that you do it that way

I took out the damaged beam ( one hour and a half )
With the Shocks disconnected at one end I was able to thread one adjuster pointed screw back in .
I called my mechanic friend to ask a question and he told me since I had it out to just bring it to him " Very Happy before I broke something else Very Happy ".

This is how an old guy moves heavy stuff .( $ sometimes for work too $ )
2000 pound winch mounted between front seats .
Wireless remote control .
With this ramp and a furniture dolly I can move most anything I want by myself .

If all you are dealing with is a stripped hole in the adjuster anchor, why pull the arms or leaves?

Pop off the tie rods and drop the beam down so you can get to things. Probably don't need to even open the brake system if you have a jack or small table to rest the beam on.

But if the hole is stripped, running a tap through it probably isn;t going to help as VOLKSWAGNUT pointed out. You could try installing a helicoil, but i think at this point I would simply replace that center anchor block.

All Fixed !!
THANKYOU EVERYONE !!
With the front end out I was able to get lower bolt in and Dave tapped the four damaged threads in the upper adjuster and got it back together ; one odd bolt won't hurt anything !

I didn't feel so bad when Dave told me how many times in his career that he has seen this same problem .
Then he told me to never touch it again ! Shocked Very Happy

HAPPY GRANDPA Laughing Very Happy

Okay, good. Now you can go back to where you left off, right? Smile

IIRC, were you not going to try and lower it some...

Pretty sure it's already been mentioned in this or that post, but your adjusters do look like they are about as low as they will go. Are you aware of this?

BTW from your pics this beam looks like maybe an aftermarket Brazilian replacement that probably came with the adjusters factory fitted? And, set up to raise the car rather than lower it too?
