Hi all...
I recently purchased a set of NOS chrome bumper guards (w/impact strip cut-outs) in the classifieds, and was wondering which years they would fit.
The guards are a genuine VW accessory, and the Part# is: ZVW 151 805 (from the ad... which is already sold) --- https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/1883047.jpg
The seller stated in the ad that they would fit 68-72?, maybe other years??, but sounded like they wasn't sure.
I was wanting to run these numbers by someone who might know which year bumpers they would fit!. If they are for '68-73... Would they also fit '74 & later as well???
Thanks! _________________ Be kind to all critters. America's "H8TERZ" can drink sludgy used Motor Oil!

I have a 69 type 1 and the attachment points on your overriders looks nothing like I'm familiar with. I don't see how they'd fit on a 68 - 71. Perhaps later years? _________________ '69 Standard Beetle |

I don't see the attachment points the above posted notes.
In this style guard there is a set that fits 68-73 w/o impact strip and a set for 68-73 cars with the strip and then a set for 74-79 American cars only which has a taller, fatter and deeper bumper. A 68-73 set will not even come close to fitting a 74-79 and the 74-79 set will be way too big and square for earlier cars. Normally the set for the cars with the impact strip is a two piece clamp that slips over the bumper and tightens down. The non impact strip version has a long bolt in the center that replaces one of the bumper to bumper mount bolts. _________________ Midwest Autosavers, Inc. Woodstock, IL |

Based on your picture, they look like they would fit a '68-'73 with an impact strip.
I hope you didn't pay to much. CIP1 sells decent repops for $30 a set [both styles].

I've got a '70 that came with the bumper overriders, and they look a lot like the ones in the picture. Unfortunately, my car is in storage, so I can't go out and see how they are attached. Anyway, here's a pic:
(Pay no attention to the rusty-ass bumper...it's just one more thing I'm saving my $ to get...unless anyone has one that they want to get rid of?) |

Yours are the ones >without< the bumper strip cut out. Look at the pic again, you can easily see the cut out.

My '70 originally had the overriders on it (but no impact strip) and I'm the second owner (since 1972). Mine had a stud which went through the bumper and was secured by a nut on its back side. When I took them off I had to get carriage bolts to replace those. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
