Here's a modified Thing that was added to the gallery:
I'm curious what the vented box is on top of the right front fender? A siren or horn maybe? The fill cap through the hood is interesting too, along with the sunken spare. |

Looks like someone likes the Kdf look! If I had a '74, I might do the same! _________________ '73 Thing

and custom rocker panels I see
as far as the fenders and headlights go, that's exactly what I'm trying to do with my '73 (I bought fiberglass fenders as to not damage the original steels).
Not to hijack the topic, but does anyone know where you can get KdF style mountable headlights _________________ // '73 Thing "Jeep Zerstörer" currently being restored / kustomized

Thanks guys. I own this car. I live in Louisville KY. The box on the fender is a siren. 2 in. lift, 944 rear disc. 71 Bus tranny. 2 Liter 914 engine. Beard seats. 73 car with scoops added and gas heater removed. German 2 tone air horns. Steering brakes. Rear of body extended 10 in. to use 914 cooling. 4 in. wided rear fenders, the list go's on and on. VW Trend filmed the car, but went of the market before a feature. |

Was the sunken spare tire done with a panel from a non-walkthru bus? I'd like to do that on mine. _________________ member of: Fort Worth Aircoolers Gang |

The purist in me wants to hate it, but it's too well done! Lots of creative touches. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

I will post some pictures soon. The tires are Super Swampers 28 8.50 14 and 29 8.50 15. I did make the side rails as well as every thing else on the car. About 1500 hours in the making. At the rear is 2 2 stage external air cleaners. The engine lid is made up of Thing lid cut and flattin then the ribs from a late bus engine cover, front bus grill all welded and finished. Total of 9 pieces for the lid. The dash has been cut out from the pinch weld down and has a one piece dash with Porsche 914 guages. The paint is base coat/ clear coat with a flattener. I will have someone post the pics. soon |
