the one i have is like this, just darker red and with saddlebaskets on the rear. used it on a paper route for 2 years.. though its a moped, and only goes 25-30 (35 if you tune it right) it gets 80+ MPG and is great for toodling around town.

only downside is it was made for leaded gas, so you have to use a substitute... but the NOS gas cap has a measurement cup on the underside. just need a new coil for it to get it running again

Just a thought, but if you put a MOTOR on a bicycle, it would be legal to ride on the street.

Umm, they already are, KG. Just not the freeway.

Well, I guess you could read it that way too. Very Happy

I didn't mean to imply that bicycles weren't street legal without motors...........rather, that minibikes are not street legal.
If you're going to put in the time and effort, it seems to me a better payback if you could actually use it legally on the street.

Regarding the Whizzer - it was a kit available back in the 40s and 50s. (Not certain if they sold complete bikes back then.)
Many of the motors available today are based on a similar design, but are chinese knock-offs (go figure).
Whizzer did make a come-back, and you can purchase a new one either on eBay or from local dealers.

Compared to the kits though, they are very expensive.
If you have the skill, you could put one together for 1/2 to 1/3 the cost.

i have 2 old mini bike type things....they look like beefed up bicycles with small engines. they also have pedals, i guess in case you run out of gas..lol i need to get rid of them to a good home....maybe trade for some vw parts or parts car...lol i will get some pics this evening and post on here...

I'm not sure what he used for tires, they look to be off a wheelbarrow.

He still has it, but it hasn't run in 25+ years.
My folks are moving next week, and I'm planning to 'steal' it - to revive it for him.
If you'd like, I can PM you more detailed pictures when I get it.

Other one looks like a Sachs or Jawa, though I'm not certain.

Maybe a betavus, they built some with that sort of tank position. But the luggage rack was different and the tank angle is a little different.

It can be hard to tell with mopeds. The designers tend to use rather similar designs Laughing

Scooter/Moped + VW always seemed like a smart combination to me.

If the scooter is getting 100 mpg and the bus is getting twenty, you could argue that if you take the scooter half the time the bus is effectively achieving about 60 miles per gallon.

That means VW+Scooter > Prius, and better looking too.

Alot cheaper too. I'm getting atleast 90 mpg on my scoot. I only have to ride one or two days a week to work to really increase my overall mpg combined with my bus.

Also I figure if a bike has a motor then it doesn't need pedals.

Time to rock the Honda! Very Happy It should fit my single wheel trailers well and be a good spare tire or runabout for bus events.

That is the most ridiculously convoluted false logic I've ever read. Laughing
