Ran across this my American Science and Surplus catalog:
http://www.sciplus.com/singleItem.cfm?terms=13690&cartLogFrom=Search
I already put it on the Eurovan/Vanagon list, but I think I'll get one for my Thing, too! What better for the engine bay, under the hood, interior even!
Use rechargeable batteries (which the LEDs use very sparingly) and you could probably have a good, cheap light source for years to come.
Cheers,

They choose the colors though, might wind up with a rainbow
sounds like a good idea for the hood and engine compartment, the only thing that concerns me about the latter is the heat _________________ // '73 Thing "Jeep Zerstörer" currently being restored / kustomized

My Thing is pretty funky anyway, so color LED bases probably wouldn't make any difference.
Hell, the fact that I'm driving a Thing is funky enough! |

They sell those at K-mart and other stores. I have a couple around the house. |

The previous owner of mine put a little map light in the dash, but it shines straight out and it's only on when the headlights are on. I think he used it to fill a hole someone left. Since I try not to take my Thing anywhere at night when I might need a map, I haven't really decided if it's useful or not. With a little prying, it comes out and you can shine it anywhere. The original map light still works a whole lot better. _________________ You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit.
