Hi All
I'am wondering what size of engine everyone has in their buggies? I was thinking of a 1915 cc or is that too much HP for a buggy?
Thanks Rene |

100-120 HP is a lot for a 1300 lb fiberglass dunebugy. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Depends on what you want? Sports car ...build a nice 1776 or 1915. Drag racer?? build a stroker.
Again even a 1600 with dual 40 webers will be great fun in a buggy. the weight thing does it.
Play with this and you will see what I mean. Assume 1300 pounds for the car.

My 2332 is very streetable just don't over carb/cam a dual 44 weber and a 120 cam works for me, great torque,good idle,and 8;803@ 74mph in the 1/8 mile Madmike |

Yeah, it really does depend on what you want. Mine is a 1600 with an Engle 100 cam, dual Weber 34s, and it goes plenty fast enough for me, even though it's probably closer to 70-75hp. Then again, I'm well past the uncontrollable urge to race every other fast car off the line.
It's also nice that I get over 30mpg on the highway. I really just wanted an engine that would last as long as possible and get good mileage. _________________ 1970 Autodynamics Deserter Series One (gone)

I don't understand??? What is too much??? I am running just under 200 hp and will upgrade to a turbo soon. I should end up around 340 or so adding the turbo to the 2375. It is always better to have hp in the bank for when you need it, than to try and pull it out of thin air when you need it most to save your butt! Ask yourself what you want it to do? I know 200-300 hp is overkill for most people, but if you have a need to get radical, having the power to do what you want is necessary when you need it most. _________________ Street legal fiberglass rocket ship

The engine I had was a 2276, with 120 cam, 40x35 heads and 44webers. Probably a 130-140hp engine, that idled like a stock one, would catch rubber in all gears, and run smooth down the interstate. Reliable. Plenty power and affordable.
A big engine with a small cam in a light buggy will give you miles of smiles and last forever...in my HUMBLE opinion.
Kinda like a big block in a street car.....sure there are more powerful small blocks, but the power never comes on down low like a big block. On the street, torque is where it is at. _________________ 62 vert

is there ever too much HP? If it scares you, get your foot out of it. I have a mild 1776/dual kads, thunderbird quiet exhaust. Tuned pretty well - guessing 70ish HP. Its nice and fun to drive - has plenty of zip. Would I like another 20 HP or so? Hell yeah! But that next 20 ha$ a $ub$tantial expen$e. LOL _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

2110 with usual tricks.
It's way overkill. I think a mild 69X94 would work just fine. _________________ 64 custom Ghia, 66 Bug, Sandrail, Barrien tub |

My wife's buggy is getting my old 1914 (69X94) turbo motor. Should be good for a few smiles when I'm done changing a few things.
My buddy Larry's buggy is getting a 2.0 Type IV turbo motor. We'll likely punch it out a little bigger but that depends on his budget. _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org

I'm putting a EJ25 Subaru in my Cody Coyote. It should be running around 190HP through a Porsche 915 5-speed tranny in a 1500LB car. FUN!
