I was hoping to find some tall, aggressive tires for my Thing without going to a big 4x4 tire. I was hoping for the vintage power wagon...WWII Jeep, tall - skinny - aggressive kind of look...if that makes any sense. What do you think of these?

I'm not sure yet if I can get the proper size...but if so, I was thinking of installing them on the stock 14" rims.
Anyone got any better ideas?

I'd use "7.0x14" as my search. Good luck! _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

Thanks...and love the sig. The rEVOLution has begun.
If I'm reading it right...the width on the original Thing rims is 5"? Is this correct? I found some BFG's T/A KO's that are 14"....but they fit a 6-7.5 inch rim. That being the case, they wouldn't work right?
I'm completely confused...lol.

Yep, Thing rims are 5" wide -- the BFG 27x8.5R14's should work fine. I believe some of the Bay/Vanagon folks use them too.
BTW, it's good to see you around here, Mike. I recognize you from the Topica list.

Well, if anyone is considering buying these tires, you'd better act quick. BFG discontinued them....I could have gotten them from Tirerack.com for $95 last week but now they're sold out....after a couple of hours of searching, I've finally found some..but at $130 each. _________________ Mike in SC |

Which tires? The BFG AT 27" X 8.5-14's? I'm surprised to hear BFG is disco-ing them. That's been a regular size for a long time. I'm sure there are other tire mfg. offering an all terrain tire in that size if so.
If it were me, I would swap up to 15" rims and tires any way. There is a much better selection of All Terrain & Mud Terrain tires in 15". |

Yes - the BFG 27-8.5-14's. The only reason that I am staying with the 14's is because I already have them and I actually like the look of them. When they need to be replaced I'll probably go to 15's.
The only only other tire that I was able to find in that size is the General Grabber AT...which isn't a very aggressive tread... _________________ Mike in SC |
