You can see the progress from the driver side ones to the pass. side, I decided to ad a lip so I can shrink and stretch to get a nice contour.
I will buy some thicker material and make the real ones. If I can get it "perfect" I may make a few kits if people are interested.

dig these. while i will never need tubs, this is certainly looking "right".

x2 on that I probably won't ever needs tubs but if I did I would want ones that look like something vw would have done

Very nice.
Thats basically how I did my first set on my mango. But yours look more thought out and smoother.
Wish I would have just did it the same on this one but always trying to do something new to me/learn.

I have been working on perfecting my prototype for drop in tub kits. I need to make a few tiny changes (like the bead rolls)
They will be $250 for the set.
These are nicer, easier to install and CHEAPER than any others available. (Go ahead and look Wink )

These are 1.5" flat tubs but for $50 more I will make whatever size you want.

I finally made my way through all 16 pages.

Trying to figure out how to do mine, or preferable just order something from one of the guys that is making a kit.

Can a couple more people show what they did with the seats? I was hoping to not need to hack them terribly or cut all the springs down or whatever the solution is for the walk through seat. One of the ads with tubs for sale shows a curvy bar as a seat kit, but does not show the bus complete with the seats in, or the seats modified.

I have a 64 walk though. My seats are out of it right now and at a shop.
What happens if you just raise the seats along with the tubs without cutting the bottoms out of the seats? Do you just sit 2 inches higher? With the steering box raise wouldn't that just work out, or let me know what I'm missing here. I think I have plenty of head room, I'm only about 5'8"

Its not the head room that you will lose, its the ability to see out of the window without being slouched all of the time. If you wanna go low enough for tubs, you better be ready to cut shit up. There is no way around it.

this is true you have to cut up and modify the seat frame and springs.

Raising the tubs and steering box raise is your only option to not modify the seat frames. I don't know for sure but it looks like TQR kits require you to make or buy mount raise kits to just raise the seats but not sure about the springs. I agree there should be more pictures of what people do with the seats. I have a few kits out and at least 2 people installing them real soon so should have pics of mine installed soon. I will be just making new frames for my bus because I didn't want to hack up a hump back seat.
In my old mango I did 1.5" flat tubs and just made the bottom seat frame straight then took out 1" from the springs. So it only raised me .5" and felt great.
I sold a set to a guy with a 66 wt and he will be installing his soon and he plans on doing a "step by step".
I want to help you out even if you can't use my kits. Wink

Nice work Niko.
What did you do about the top/back frame? Did you just take out the lift from the bottom? I raised my mounting tabs up .5"-1" on the bulkhead but after that figured it would have been nicer to just move the mounts in the frame down .5"-1"

I'm doing this from my phone because I am in Japan now but here's my old bus you can see a picture of the seat.

Cheers mate, I didnt have a back rest so I made it from a baywindow rear seat. I had to shorten it in the middle and then moved the mount pins down 1"

Hi all,

Just thought I'd post seeing as I've been mentioned in a post above....

So far since developing and fitting my tubs to my own bus I've since sold between 25-30 sets internationally, not just in the UK. The feedback I've got so far is the people who have bought them seem to like the shape and minimal affect on the original surrounding metal they have when fitted.
Out of the sets I've sold I've also supplied around a 3rd of those with set raise kits. I make these so the original seat frames don't really have to be altered and work as per factory, especially later busses with sliding drivers seat. The other 2/3rds the customers choose to raise their own seat fixings like Si Med did on page 15 of this thread as with a bench seat you really only need to raise the original fixings with 30mm box section. Doing this there's no need for any seat base mods at all.

In split buses alone there are 4-5 different seat configurations, which is why I think it's difficult just to put out info on all the different ways to do this. I've also sold these to a few people who are 6'1" to 6'3" and they have all said the seat position is perfect.

I spent over 9 months developing these on my own bus which is now sold but is wearing the prototypes , I tried various sizes, designs , but came to realise that most larger tubs etc are infact a bit overkill, and I then added the pressing not only for style but to strengthen the tubs and to mimic og pressings on a smaller scale. I know my design now works and is easy to fit , this allows me to confidently stand behind my product!!

I provide full support and email pics , how to pic and fitting instructions to anyone who buys my tubs, I have made these so they can be fitted at a garage but just as easily by a DIY restorer.

Cheers
Gav

Keith, with a steering box raise you normally have the column machined down by the same amount as the box raise gives so the steering wheel returns to the OG position.

All good info guys, biggest problem with doing tubs and not lowering the seat means you will be looking at the roof while driving. If your short its not a problem but if your 6'1" like me you have to customize your seat lower.
