Gassed up and ready for CTS?
Trim rings look great - need to fix the steering wheel and she'll be done! |

Super nice bus. Mines not exactly done yet. But the golfing is great !

Damn, that is a lot of discs! Nice looking bus too! I wish I stumbled upon someone hawking discs out of a bus around here.
Greg, I have 4 or 5 things I still want to do, including the steering wheel, but I am not sure it will ever be "done". For instance, those trim rings are temporary until I get my other set of date code correct rings restored. I have a few bolts that I want to replace and some other minor details. The good thing is that I can drive it while I tend to them. |

I wet myself every time I see photos of that Bus, Neil!
Still trying to get Antiques Roadshow tickets for the Chicago event (July 26th) latter this Summer, we'll find out it we got any in the ticket lottery tomorrow... if so, we're coming back up! Our love to Laura (okay, you too).

This weekend was the first big bus event in the Midwest, Camp Crusty, and it drew the big gun: The Casino Kombi!
Put your bumper back on that bus
It looks like a nice day, but the wind was brutal and the bias ply tires were not much help
Jack, it was great to see the Casino Kombi on the road!

Damn! I knew I'd regret missing "Camp Crusty" this year! Sounds like a great time was had by all. Brian said that the half keg was empty by 5pm! There must have been a few more beer runs that evening...
Great to see shots of you out on the road in the '58!

Since our buddy Neil is so shy and reserved, I can't believe that he hasn't said anything on here about his latest achievement!
Our buddy Neil was married to Laura a week ago or so on a beautiful day in downtown Chicago. I've seen a few photos in his Facebook page. Not sure whether that beautiful old Bus of theirs was involved in the festivities, but I'd like to be the first here to congratulate the lucky couple and wish them the very best of everything on the start of this newest chapter of their lives together! Way to go, you two!

Pretty sure Neil doesn't say anything because he is too busy enjoying their honeymoon... _________________ 1967 Split SO-42 Dormobile |

...and I think they are over in your neck of the woods "Xavi". My wife says that from the photos posted on Facebook, they might be in France?
Congratulations and happy honeymooning you two!

...and now she shows me Facebook photos of the honeymooning couple driving your cool Westfalia around in the Pyrennes Mountains and lounging in bubbling European hot springs! Come on... tell us all about it "Xavi"! And perhaps Neil himself will add to the tales once he can come up for air!

mmmhh, yes Facebook has betrayed Neil and Laura... I don't want to hijack his honeymoon, though...
But yes I am proud to say that the happy couple are driving our westy across the Catalan mountains... We will met them today again since they are leaving the country early on sunday.
My guess is that they are enjoying his honeymoon trip, but I will lt Neil tell you about this... _________________ 1967 Split SO-42 Dormobile |

Thanks for the comments guys.
Lou, did you see any of the NOS parts I have gotten from you in the past?
Tom, thanks for sharing the shade from your awning and congratulations in first place for your camper in the split bus class!
Looking forward to hanging out again at upcoming shows. |

Sad to say that I took the last drive in my bus for a long long time because of an overseas move that will not allow me to take the bus with me.
Faced with long term storage dilemma, putting the bus in a museum setting was the best option, so I loaned it to Anderson VW in Crystal Lake, IL for their display.
On Monday I dropped the bus off, drained the fuel tank, ran the carb dry and put some Marvel Mystery oil in the spark plug holes and spun the engine over a few times to make sure the pistons and cylinders were nicely protected.
Here are a few pix of the bus in the shop at Anderson VW getting prepped.
The underside is pretty clean considering the bus has been driven a couple thousand miles since it was finished last year.
The guys were cool about letting me do all my own work in their shop and got a kick out of me bringing my own tools.
I will post up some pix after the bus is on display with the rest of their car collection.
The last drive was a pleasure and it warmed up enough for me to pop the safaris and really enjoy the crisp autumn day.
I will enjoy the bus again in the future and will relax knowing that it is in a very safe, climate controlled setting that no one can touch (save for dusting) while I am away.
If you are in the Chicago area, stop by the Crystal Lake VW dealer and check out their collection and the old bus. |
