Question at bottom.

From the CV side out:

Okay here is the order which I found in the search:

Seal
Spacer with (beveled edge)
Snap Ring
Inner Bearing
Large Spacer
Outer Bearing
Spacer
Gasket
Backing Plate
Gasket
Seal/Seal Holder
Drum
Axle Nut
Cotter Pin

Question deals with the Spacer with (beveled edge) does the (beveled edge) face the tranny or the tire?

I tried it both ways and it does not seem to seat well. 1/4 in. gap between stub axle and housing. So I assume it will suck up tight when I torque the axle nut down. but i am not sure which way the above mentioned spacer should face.
Thanks for any help.

The spacer with the bevel is the outer spacer near the drum. The bevel edge goes in facing the bearing so that the smaller lip runs on the inner race of the roller bearng and then on the other side the larger lip on the spcer mates up against the drum.

I do not remember off hand if the inner spacer near the cv has a bevel r not and if so which way it faces.

The champher goes toward the bearing face. It exists to touch the inner surface of the bearing and clear the rotating surface.

Bevel (champher) edge toward the bearing on inner spacer.
Thanks.

About the 1/4 inch gap that will get sucked in with the axle nut right or should I be doing something different to get the stub axle to ride flush to the housing???

I would look into if I were you. I'll have to check a couple schmatics but I know you should never have to suck in any thing a 1/4 of any inch. Be very careful if you do choose to try. Go very slow and check things out often. A 1/4 of an inch doesn't sound right.

I had a bit of a gap as well on both sides. I'm pretty sure it's taken up by the drum. Take a look at it - it extends about 1/4" and I believe it mates up with the spacer.

I thought that outer spacer had the beveled edge facing outward. Blast. Well, I was gonna pull the rear brakes off soon anyway.

About five years ago (with a ton of help from my friends) I built one of the most perfect Thing transaxles possible. It had as one of its premiere components a ZF Quiaffe Locker Diff.... In the final moments of construction it was realized that the ZF diff body was too thin for the Thing trans case. So shims were constructed. The shim stock was a gift from one of our old Pikes Peak Hill Climb pals.. This is also where I got the ZF diff (it came from a mini sprint that ate shit early in race season) Soooo we cut the shims and locked up the box.. Its a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll.. )Jack Black) I currently have two motors to build and one trans.. plus a fwe other issues. Glory is just around the corner....
