I had my buddy with a tire/wheel shop order mine from EMPI. The 15" wheels are needed with disc brakes, at least for rear wheel discs.

The cip1 site quotes Empi style made in Europe.
EMPI still manufactures these wheels and are the original for the same if not less price.

Im thinking at least front disc's on mine. The drums are definitely interesting. In a panic stop i have to push the drums really hard and down shift as to not hit someone. Im not too fond of that.

My disc brake conversion was done by the PO. But I have to abmit with the 1835 I have in it and when I'm crusing at 70 MPH... I sure do like the response I get when I do have to step on the brakes Very Happy I've been that other guy as well having to pump away on that pedal HOPING I can get her stopped! Shocked Just my 2 cents...

x2! ...just with bigger numbers.

I've got disks in front and kept the drums in the rear and she stop really nicely. Yet, my rear brakes need some attention - I have to replace the backing plate on one side (the adjustment stars are rusted solid) and the slave cyl on the other (it's sucking in air). Since more brakes = better, and I've got to tear into the rears anyway, I started thinking about this kit:

I've already got 4-lug disks in front. If you (dear reader) are thinking about rear drums as well, here's the 5-lug version:

$350 seems a decent price to upgrade the brakes and kiss brake adjustments goodbye.

you remind of my friend ED. Funny story: So he has this gorgeous 65 beetle 97% restored. He says he wants to borrow my truck so i take his vw to work 10 miles away. Mind you its during traffic. I take off at the corner and haul butt down the main road. He has an 1800+ motor with dual carbs and all the goodies so its pretty quick. I come to the next light and hit the brakes and the car pulls to the right.

Let me refrain, it violently jerks to the right. The mixture and timing is off so it turns off on me too. I finally get it started in the middle of traffic and burn the tires and find out the driver seat is not bolted down properly and i end up in the back seat with 2 fingers on the steering wheel. By the next light i have the pattern worked out. I tell him when i get back to his house and he can't stop laughing. He's lucky i know how to drive or someone else would have totaled it.
He got a real kick out of it and he knew how i drove and he said he wished he could have seen my face when i found out what was wrong with a car.
I also curbed my friends 65 nova one time because his brakes sucked and i don't think im going to wait for the next time it happens.
