Nah. I really like the stock early tail lights. They are shaped just right...not only for the Sled, but for any Type 3. _________________ Later,

I think they create a nice "finned " look myself. Great job John! I hope to see it at the Invasion, if not, I'll have to stop by your house. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I have been doing some work on the sled, including a new rendering of the car from the front...
I built the front bumper from a '53 Ford bumper I got off e-bay...
I picked up an airbag system for it for $200 from a buddy that works at a hot rod shop...
Lots of other bit of progress too. Many more pics over on Volksrods.com
BTW, the Sled will be at the Invasion on Saturday, at least. It will be coming on a trailer, but it will be there. _________________ Later,

WOW, that rendering really looks sweet John, and the modified front bumper looks pretty cool too.
Look forward to seeing int in 2 weeks and 2 days. Maybe by then Brian will have it moving on it's own with the bags installed. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

your braided line there is worth way more! i would however recomend you get some viar compressors. like the 480c. those dc500's are crap, and draw alot of power. (in my opinion, you'll be alot happier) but nonetheless the best score i've seen in some time.
the rendering is SICK, and the front bumper looks awesome! keep it up |

been following this for a few and am just not sure what to think... the only thing I have to say is (my $.02) is it needs bullet turn signals on the front at least.... I think they would look a little more sleddish? |

Who cares? My bet is that most of the cars harmed were going to the crusher anyway.
I think it would look good with a white roof over the blue. _________________ '92 MR2

There are parts of 3 Type 3 in the Sled so far. I started with my rusted beyond repair 1971 Fasty (Jane 1).
She was the practice car for all the cutting and she donated all of her bolt-on body panels.
The body shell and chassis were from a largely rust free 1970 shell (Jane 2) that I got for free from a friend.
I will admit this shell could have been made into a decent driver, but what's the fun in that.
There is also some bits of a pale yellow Late model Square in there too that was cut up for scrap by another VWer long ago. _________________ Later,

| wasn't meant to be offensive I was just counting colors and panels, looks like a couple sets of rear fenders a roof and a half or so and a lot of misc sheet metal.. all the colors everywhere I think a quick primer job would make it a lot easier to see your vision of a finished product... my $.02 but like I said I like a lot of what you have done, keep up the good work |

No offense taken at all. As for the quick coat of primer, I have considered it, but decided in the end to just do the renderings to "see" my vision. I am hoping to have the bulk of the fabrication done by this fall, then it can get the MasterSeries Rust Inhibitor and some primer/sealer.
You weren't the first to comment on the patchwork of colors.....one of the guys over on Volksrods posted this after seeing some of the pictures...

Very cool and different! Keep us up on the progress. I love the dash! That dash just screams 50's. Wonder what it'll weigh once it's all said and done? _________________ Aloha..."Eddie would go."
