My last thread was a mess, broken picture links etc.. so I had it deleted and i'm starting over.
This was my buddy Daves car back in high school, we graduated in 1989.....Yep, i'm 40.. A little history on the car. Daves neighbor built the car around 84ish, had to sell it because he needed funds so Daves dad bought it for himself. Dave ended up with a crappy mid 70's bug when he turned 16 in 87 and that wasn't cutting it. With enough bitching he convinced his dad to give him this car. It was bad ass.....especially to a 16 yr old. Imagine being 16 and having your dad throw you the keys to a immaculate 69 VW with new paint, velour interior, chrome Mangels with Porsche caps, adjustable beam, a 2180 with dual 44 IDF's, built tranny and alot more. I was a little jealous to say the least. This car saw a lot of races and was the nicest and fastest VW around. We graduated and Dave blew up the engine so he gave the car back to his dad and Dave moved on. So his dad pulled the engine, covered the car and parked it in 91 or so. Daves dad had the long block built for a buggy and kind of forgot about the car. Over the years I kept on him about selling it and he never wanted to, he wanted Dave to have it but he was never really interested. Who wouldn't want their bad ass car from school? In 2007 he finally gave in and said "give me $1200.00 and it's yours".....so I bought it. It came with a 1835 and all the stuff from the 2180 including the Webers. I have been on and off on this thing since but now it's go time. Here is a little time line in pictures. Im pretty stoked about it.
When I picked it up in 07.

Tried some early fenders, wasn't digging the idea.

Found some 4.5 Mangels in 09 and put some 145's on it with new Porsche nipple caps. Toyed with 67 fenders and no bumpers but I want T-bars so off they come and back to the OG fenders.

Thats where I left off 2 years ago. New job, family and a move put a hold on things fo a while. Next faze coming up.

Got the seat rails done for my Beards.....seats are getting sent out for upholstery.

Got the build out done for my door speakers. I'm not too hip on the kick panels and obviously you cant fit anything in the stock door locations and have the window cranks work so I did this. I built a frame behind the panel and took out the pocket. The build out is 1/2" MDF wrapped in black vinyl. I would have moved the speaker forward but it didnt look right because the build out had to be so big to cover the pocket. I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Picking up the 4pt cage next week and will finish the rear package tray panel for speakers and cut outs for the cage and get the seats back in. Its getting there.

Making some progress.......
Got my ride height dialed in. Rear is 6 up on the inner and 6 down on the outer, front is 2 inch spindles with a adjustable beam. Those are 195-60/ 15's..........I'm going with 205/70's and that should be the exact look I want.

Interior is done. Got my Beards recovered and the rear to match. Im pretty happy with the result.

Got my rear speaker panel done, kind of a pain in the ass but worth it.

That's it for now.

Where did you find these nipple hubcaps for 4 lug wheels? I want a set for my 69! Cool

The car looks good! I like how the interior turned out; the tach is low and out of the way, nothing flashy on the dash, simple upholstery.

Thanks for the props. I bought those caps about 3 years ago. I believe I got them here -----------------> http://www.socalautoparts.com/product_info.php?products_id=15446 They are ok quality, you have to keep them polished and waxed or they will rust super easy. Good luck.
