Hey Guys, I bought a new steering box from the Thing Shop. There seemed to be a little oil in the bag. I think that it may be coming from aroung the adjusting nut/lock nut area. My question is what tools are need to remove or tighten these nuts? I think a pipe wrench would work around the lock nut. How do you remove the adjusting nut? Or do you? I wanted to check the fluid level inside the assembly and top off if necessary. What type of oil do I use? Thanks

Hello

To check the level once the steering box will be fitted on the front beam (or if you reproduce the correct angle), you will have to remove the plugs ( there should be 2 clear plastic plugs on the top). They are not easy to remove.

You can use gearbox oil (SAE 80 or 90).

Stick a thin screw driver in to one of the fill holes to see if you have oil or grease. VW changed from oil to grease at some time.
