Added a factory 3-point seatbelt to my rear passenger side from a parts van.
Need to add a headrest now...

Ordered parts from Germany finally landed. It took 20 Days to reach.
Parts received, Clutch slave cylinder, Wheel cylinders, Speedometer cable,
Bolt cups for back bumper, HD drums & Brake liners lastly & finally able to get Sliding door handle Gourmet.
Van’s left side wheel cylinder was leaking fluid. I decided to replace Both the wheel cylinders(OE first replacement).
HD Drums along with liners were replaced. Drums got a coat of paint(OE first replacement).
Now van enjoys a New Rear Brake system.
Clutch slave cylinder had bit sponginess, indication of replacement. Got it replaced(OE first replacement).
Dot 4 fluid been used here.
OE Speedometer cable had jammed, it will be replaced later.
First Impression on replaced Brake drums, Hand brake was more effective. Cable adjustment was kept to minimum.

Vanis13, Yes I did read your post (when it was fist posted) on the alternate bumbershoot location but this cheap IKEA freebee was too long to fit and when I removed it (after my trial fitting) it had 20 years or inner door muck on it. This new location is OK(?) but I find I catch my arm or coat on it and it can get bent so the jury is out on this as a permanent location. Did mention it was "cheap" _________________ Curent ride: 87 2WD Westy, 2012 Jetta Sportwagon 2.5S

Removed rack
A bit of junk, wasp/bee hive
Scrubbed clean
Turned out to be easier than first thought. Luggage rack is actually not that heavy, cleans nicely, needed to add some extra glue for the drain hole screens. _________________ Tortuga

Back on the road after rebuilding the rear end, shifter linkage, and changing the gear lube.
New CVs all around, new rear bearings, new swing arm bushings, new braided brake lines, new bits to the shifter linkage, and cleaned the electrical connections to the starter and the big ground wire on the tranny.
Now I have a seal on a pushrod tube seeping oil. I guess that MMO I added at the last oil change is cleaning up the sludge. _________________ 1983 Vanagon 1.9L GL - destined to become a dry camper

I posted this over in the thread going on about front door speakers but thought I would post here since I installed new panels as well.
If someone can tell me how to post the link I will edit this with link as well.
Just did this last night and this morning.
Installed these with crossover in the front

These in the back
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P57/Sound-Ordnance-P-57.html?tp=105
Along with new Go Westy front door panels. I used the old ones to do a template. $150 existing JVC deck is nothing special. It sounds great no distortion. Took about 3 hours on the passenger and about 30 mins to do the driver side.... No real cutting or anything since the rear was cut out for the last set of polks that were in there.
5in Hole Saw worked great for the fronts. Perfect size.
I chose the tweeter location as it did not interfere with hands and the recess in the door allows for me to use full length screws with v nuts
Crossover on the passenger door fit in the space on the door the original speaker did....
Mounting
Cut outs
6 1/2
Tweeter
Mounted Pass
Closed Mounted Pass
Driver Mounted

Changed the oil, and took the opportunity to re-torque the cooler nut (about 10 ft/lb beyond Bentley spec per advice found here and finding it loose in the past after torquing to spec).
The season for leaking oil cooler seal threads is not too far away...! _________________ 1986+ Wolfsburg Weekender Pop-Top 2.3 WBX Manual Trans |

Finally had to do. some work on the sync, hard clutch aaction & a slo leak.Pulled eng, good thing as press plate fingers almost worn off & t.p. brng not siezed spins freely & quiet?? Seems like some press is in clutch hyd as when u move clutch arm fully restored back it slowly creeps back & to me keeps the brng against clutch wearing it out, clutch shaft free & lubed. Is there a check valve somewhere between slave & mstr?? Also the bracket that slave is mounted on broken in to. After seeing the work to replace & NOT wanting to disturb the plastic hose/banjo fitting I made up a wet cloth splatter shield, sprayed things down & welded it back together, did a cooling down spray onto each spot weld so slave not overheated. Was there ever a torsion spring on wbxs like the ac/type 1 trans used to hold to brng released?? I'm gonna make up 1, dont want another press plate ruined, or is there something I'm overlooking?? More stuff than I realized to do when u get your head in there with the eng out, seemed like it was more fun the last time I did this??? |
