Yes, the back seat/bed has been removed in this photo - I mentioned the other day (in a post about four above this one) that I had it out for cleaning as well as some interior refurb, hence the shot of the inside. I'll get some photos of the van up in the next day or so. _________________ -------

I just swapped out all (except indicators) of my outside lights with LEDS from Campervan Culture.
Also, I changed out my nasty-ass air baffles for the nice GW pieces (Part #: RAD-BAFFLE-SET).
While I had the grille off, I found the wires to the front fog lights! Now I just need for TUV to approve the Terrapod lights!!! _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

Since its getting cooler, I have started to switch the fresh air control levers to get a little heat. When I tried in the evening, I was fumbling in the dark to find the control levers. I realized that many of my interior instrument light bulbs were not functioning. I ended up replacing light bulbs behind the fresh air control levers, the automatic transmission console and the original cigarette lighter.
In my van, the following switches should all be illuminated when functioning properly:
Speedometer
Tachometer
Clock / warning light cluster
Electric window switches
Cigarette lighter
Emergency flasher switch
Rear window defroster switch
Fresh air control levers
Heater fan switch
Automatic transmission console
Much better now... _________________ 1988 Westfalia automatic Subaru OBD1

I replaced the hatch struts, added a screen for the slider door window and went to apply the 3M plastic covers for the headlights...but it's too cold, I don't think they will stick. I'm still working on my heated seats, hopefully they'll be all wired up this weekend. _________________ '87 Syncro Weekender |

got the Airtronics aka Espar, aka Eberspacher D2 diesel furnace serviced with new glow plug screen and new fuel filter screen. Yes! it works
replaced belt tensioner on Tdi motor, one less clack clack noise
raised Injection Quantity from 3 to 5, thanks to a savvy friend with vag com, not hammer mod, now smoother throttle response and better highway acceleration when passing
next up, reboot a rear axle currently removed, temporarily running on a $90 Autozone axle, no problems in general pavement use so far, knock wood _________________ My Soapboxes: Inflation; Handling; Gearing; Decoupling; Swepco |

Followed other Samba reports and installed 3 inch bilge blower fan in heat tube. Had to do it the hard way though. Tried behind front grill first, but fan noise was excessive. Moved to the back about even with propane tanks and sound is much less. Already had the silver insulation around the stock tube from last year - no help - so just cut in and added fan. It is 50 degrees out today, but last week it was cold and wished I had done this sooner. Plenty of heat back there, just need to get it up front.

Last trip to town, wash/wax, topped off gas & stabilizer, oil/filter change, put on battery maintainer & tucked away for winter.
Sleep, my pretty... <sigh> _________________ 86 White Wolfsburg Westy Weekender

OK, I know it's not a novel or even new idea..but, it was for me. I needed a little headroom for short stops or "pre-stealth setup."
Now, off for the Blue Ridge.. Much to be thankful for |

Decided to take a break from the hard stuff and do something a little easier.
Scraped and sanded clamshell to prep for new undercoat:
Also upgraded the new calipers:

- Put new latch on the rear bed seat so that it properly pulls forward/lays down into a bed (simple job, but a walkthrough to come later this week)
- Cleaned out the storage bin under the seat.
- Pulled apart the stainless stove unit to clean out remaining grease.
- Cleaned out exposed metal detail areas under tent windows when the top is popped.
- cleaned vinyl panels to prep for dyeing
- decided that I'm going to cover the bumpers and about 6-8 inches up from the rockers sprayed with LINE-X so I can stop caring about rock chips and small bumper chips. _________________ -------

Finally got around to installing 3 point rear passenger side seatbelt for our daughter who is about to exceed her rating for the car seat she is in. It will now be user by her little brother. Simple install, but makes the Mrs. and me feel better knowing she is a little safer.

Love these long weekends... gives me a chance to get stuff done..
Installed the Vanistan Oil Cooler that has been sitting on my workbench since September, changed the oil, and put in new spark plugs... then took her for a good 100 mile freeway run...
The oil cooler is awesome... kept the temp just a hair over 180 degrees on the VDO Oil Temp gauge.. New plugs helped too! _________________ Güdrun -1989 Westfalia - 2013 - 2018

Totally rebuilt the "Water Dept" on my newly acquired 1990 Westy today....neither the tank pump or the water level sensor worked , the water lines were disgustingly black inside and it still had the original faucet......so I ripped out all the existing parts and replaced it all.
New Shur Flo faucet
New water pump and clear water lines.
New level sensor.
New fill hose to the tank.
So now I'm ready for warmer weather to check it for leaks.......so next project up?.....replace fuel lines, coolant hoses, wheels and tires, etc,etc,etc........ |

Got a set of used alloys and new Goodrich tires. Stayed 14" don't want to do the lift. The shifter mechanism adjusted so that I can or better yet, my wife can easily find first gear!
Talked with mechanic about overall health of the engine, it is getting a little tired. Some blowby on 2 cyl, pushes dip stick up enough to push some oil out.
Looking over the next year or so for a good rebuilt to swap in. Can't really afford a Subie conversion, but maybe if I keep putting some money away I will have enough when it is inevitable. _________________ Live Fulltime in motorhome

In my bid to earn the Ex Lax smooth move of the year award...
Yesterday I decided to remove my perfectly operating but slightly internally damp LS Euro 7" Hella headlight. These are the OE kind with the install tabs welded to the housing, so there's no chrome ring. Anyhoo, I get the bright idea to fill the light with water, to see where it's leaking...sounds legit, right? I fill it up to the city light hole, and then raise it up to see, but when I remove my hand from the lens, it pops right off and shatters in the bottom of the sink. You'll be proud to note that I just quietly stared at the mess and didn't resort to name-calling or beating my kids. FML
Does anyone have a cheap single Euro Hella light or just the lens? Since I don't have any chrome rings around, I'm kinda stuck using a sealed beam duct-taped in place in the mean time. FML _________________ Casey--
