I installed a new puller Inter Cooler Fan today. The old fan was not running every time the Thermo switch turned it on.... Summer temps place a big demand on the IC. _________________ '84 Vanagon Tin-top, ALH TDI. 1989 Tin-top

Pulled the DS brake drum to find the cause of my scraping & soft pedal since yesterday: the
entire adjuster assembly had backed itself out and was laying at the bottom of the drum...
Root cause: the "ratchet" lever had snapped off the shoe, allowing the adjuster to
loosen continually over time...Meyle shoes with about 3000 mi on them...
Anyone have experience with a better brand of shoes...??? _________________ 86 White Wolfsburg Westy Weekender

I changed the Waterpump, updated the valve cover gasket, painted the undercarriage cover, got some vw wheels, got a spacecase, got a loadwarrior that I have yet to install.

Well, not all done TODAY but over the last few weeks. I built new interior door cards for the front doors, slider and rear hatch. I used Luan and nice bright white paint. Nice and bright and clean!! I finally got my Dakota digital CHT gauge tied into switched power. I installed the Go Westy radio toggle switch. I built an upper bunk extension so our 2 1/2 year old can safely sleep up there. Checked a noisy front passenger wheel bearing....turns out the PO had over tightened the nut. Backed it off, packed some more grease in and it is nice and quite now. Next up...remove back glass and windshield to head off a bit of rust that has begun to brew.... _________________ 1981 Westfalia with a 2001 Cabrio ABA

I painted my truck an original Vw colour. I like it much better than the previous silver. I now have a hitch from my bro-in-law and so therefore needed to wire up a harness for the lights on the ski trailer.

I was looking around under my van after changing the oil and thought 'i've not looked at the rear shifter shaft bushing...' took it apart and found it pretty dry. Greased it up, only had high temp bearing grease so used that, and took it for a drive. Wow - that makes a big difference ;-} I was looking at Weddle Industries linkage parts hoping to improve the shift and all I had to do was be a bit more thorough.... _________________ Hula - '91 Carat with '03 Subaru JDM WRX 2.0T

Wired up and mounted some off road lights on the front bumper. Man that was more of a PITA than I was anticipating, but it's done cleanly and safely, yadda, yadda.
It wouldn't have been a whole weekend chore if I hadn't decided part way through to re-wire my aux battery only to get everything out and the wire routed and realized I don't have any 8ga ring connectors and I needed about six of them to re-wire the whole GoWesty kit. Since it was about one hundred and friggin' fifty degrees out at this point (summer has arrive in the Sacramento area!), I just said screw it and put it back how it was (after putting on three new ring connectors that easily pulled off the wire...Whoever put that kit together needs a good floggin'!). I guess I'll hold off my wire upgrade until I pick up a Blue Seas ACR.
Anyways, the lights came out great though, despite taking all weekend
** Edit to add ** One last rant. The PO put the over-sized group 41 battery (tight fit!) in there with nothing underneath to get it out. What a royal pain in the a$$ to get that thing out. Took me about a half an hour to rig up a cam strap around it and then another to grab that strap on each side so I could pull it. I put a nylon strap around it (runs under it) before re-installing it to prevent that friggin' headache again. I seriously considered (briefly mind you) a cutting wheel to get that darn thing out. _________________ Going to where the grass is bluer...

Best Buy or a Car Audio store like Car Toys is where I get my 8awg connectors/wire. _________________ Abel Longoria

Thanks for the tip! Everywhere I went maxed out at 10ga. I was lucky to find a Lowes that sold the 8ga and 6ga red wire by the foot (but no connectors of course) _________________ Going to where the grass is bluer...

Yea I also buy my 4awg and 8awg wire from Car Toys as well since its pretinned and has a nice heavy jacket. They sell by the foot.
I use Ancor wiring for the rest. It's marine grade and pretinned as well. They're heatshrink tubing is nice, it has a rubber inner lining that melts when you heat it so it makes a water tight seal. _________________ Abel Longoria

OK, finally got the Dehler to be painted. Instead to go the CampanellaWhite route, i decided on my last chance to stick with the L90D Original paint.
End of the week the painting should be done, then I need a couple of small steps to get the SuhiBox on the road
eager to go there ..

I am perplexed by why you would leave the trailer hitch on when it is so easy to take off and it looks like you have removed everything else.
Are you going back mask the lower grill before you paint it ? Are you putting stock bumpers back on ? if not I would fill the holes where the filler flaps were.
Look forward to a finished project.

new tires...
Yes I know everyone is going to call me a syncro wantabe for putting BFG 195-75r14 tires on a 2wd. But, properly rated 14 inch options are getting hard to find and usually have summer only tread. Oh, and Costco had a $70 rebate for BFGs...
Next on my list is to take care of the paint. _________________ '15 Tiguan - Victor

Sweet! I just did the exact same thing today for the Pink Flamingo.
These tires are awesome and nobody should give you crap for putting light truck tires on what is essentially a light truck. The increased sidewall stiffness keeps it from feeling like a bouncing bread box. Hell, I've got a set on order for my '77 as well. _________________ -------

Finished my second attempt at Red Tek A/C rejuvenation, and...
SUCCESS! Finished with 39° at the vents & I'm sure the wife will love me now...
We hit the road this week for Oklahoma, where we're certainly gonna need it!
Also: wired in new relay to charge alt. battery...and it's all good, too...
Another perfect day!

I drove just a little less than 1000kms. at 80kph on a muddy dirt road heading home.
I saw two touring motorcycles along side the road with one driver looking at his engine. I had to look but at 80 klicks I didn't see much as I turned my head forward again I see a mud covered 2x6 in the middle of the muddy road.
I steered so I would not hit it with a tire but ran right over it and the board flipped up and took the muffler after the Cat along with a section of exhaust pipe off.
I saw the board and muffler pipe flip into the ditch in my mirror.
Hope it didn't scare the motorcyclists too much
So today I replaced the missing section with a pipe with no second muffler right to the rear muffler.
Maybe a little different tone but still quiet

Few weeks back got this roof railing fitted. Material used are of ms tube.Working Shark fin Antenna can be seen
Both the railings are bolted firmly(making a hole to the body, I hate that part). Before bolting, 3M rubber sealant was applied to the base of the railing. |
