Camped at Calico Ghost Town last weekend. Was very windy and cold, but compared to the rest of the country I can't complain. I camped with a friend who has a different outlook on what it takes to camp...
We had two 4 wheel drive side by sides to run around the desert in for the weekend. After a morning of exploring we broke out the hardware. I drove my van up a steep incline to create a wind break while we shot.
The side by sides were very capable and fit in some canyons I couldn't go, but the Calico area has many gravel roads running through it. I had hours of trails that could be explored with my 2wd.
It was nice to camp next to my friends trailer to have the use of the facilities, but I figured it's time to finally become self sufficient. I just bought this porta potty. I picked this one because it will slide under the bed, and out of the way, when in camp.

Pulled the 2002 out of an eight plus year slumber. I don't recommend using a 1.6 Turbo Diesel as your tow rig. It did get the job done though. |

Epic father/daughter road trip to grandma's house!!!
Alright, it was only thirty miles to Tacoma, but my 15 year old absolutely despises the van, and her life force is greatly diminished every time she has to be seen in such an abomination. Knowing that, I very much enjoy making the experience as awkward and uncomfortable as possible. I specialize in interpretative dance poses while listening to my aging hipster iPod, and insisting on loudly singing the following verse whenever I use the cruise control:
"Cruise control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills
and put your helmet on
Cruise control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown,
engines on
Check ignition
and may God's love be with you"
She particularly recoils at that one, and always accompanies her affection with the finest eyeroll a teenager can muster when a parent is being supremely embarrassing.
We traveled to my mom's house in order to relieve her of a couple of fairly large love seats. With AC cabinets, I knew it was going to be a tight fit, but by using my love of Tetrising, I was able to nest the two together. My daughter was so proud of my accomplishment that she probably Tweetbooked it all over the interwebz, so wait for the virals to amaze you with my middle-aged prowess.

I had a successful transport/pickup of Girl Scout Troop 1600 (The Fightin' 1600th) and all of their gear, as well as all of the gear of the Fightin' 1096th, to Tomahawk Ranch outside of Bailey, CO.

Exactly. My pre-teen kids used to love being in and around the van, but once the hormones kicked in, it's all "eeeeeeeiuuuuuu...OMG...drop me off here so no one sees me" _________________ Casey--

Yeah, my kids were that way about my '71 Bus when they were in high school...now THEIR high-school-aged kids are asking Grandpa, "Hey, can I have your old bus? It's really cool!" Of course none of them have shown any interest in learning how to wrench on it and Grandpa doesn't plan on spending the rest of his life keeping their fleet running so we'll see how this goes. |

Dampcamper:
My late grandpa showed my dumb 16 year old self how to wash a car, and then later how to change the oil (which was free to me, taking it to a shop was not). Now I swap engines and dare to own a $yncro.
The car washing appealed to my teen sense of image and the oil change to my sense of independence and self reliance. _________________ She's built like a steakhouse, but she handles like a bistro! |

Scooby and I were taken for a really nice ride by a test driver. This test driver drives a Jetta TD manual car! Like he made Scooby et moi really happy and the soprano is warming up to sing as we got a non refundable deposit. Happiness is finding someone who appreciates and understands Scooby and it's capabilities
and who is sooooo excited. Makes selling it easier somehow. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

I sure hope the soprano lady gets to sing. Will confirm when appropriate. Thanks _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

The Westy had to watch while I split wood so I could get it stacked and out of the driveway and then paint a piece of steel that will be used to reinforce my deck. Westy keeps hoping something fun will happen. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

Did our first weekend getaway with Yogi. Love the room in the Wolfsburg over a full Westy can make coffee in the morning on our camp stove, cooler behind the passenger seat. Wish he ran better but it seems that either I forgot to say replace the fuel filters or my guy missed that before we left.
Thanks to the guys in the Tintop outside Ellensburg that stopped to help and suggested back blowing the filter to clear it. Got us back across the mountains and home...and it was running so well before we left. Hope it's just the filters, will start there before I start to look at other expensive parts that may have caused the stumbling and bucking.
added photo because without pictures it didn't happen _________________ Brent H

First time the vans have all been in one spot all running with their long lost 2002 buddy who had been in storage for the last 9 years. Now running too with big brakes and a five speed conversion. I need to make room for another Syncro so please help find a home for the 91 Automatic Camper. It is sweet!
Thanks

Smart van! It got some value out of that kidney before it was shot due to all the heartache induced drinking you were doing over the van. Dam Vans are smarter then us.
