I'm wondering what you all think on these on ghias...I keep seeing them and I'm not sure if I want one or if it's gonna be a nightmare once installed.

Are they removable (as in I can take it on and off anytime I want)?
And are they sturdy? (If I buy one, it will be put to good use)

Do you all have any pictures of them? (besides the ones in the gallery)

Are you planning on a vintage style rack or a modern one?

If you're going to use it that often then who cares what people think. You will be able to take it off whenever you want.

Okay.

I'm not sure what you mean by vintage but if I were to get one it would have the new wooden slats and all that...

It changes the look of the Ghia,
that's for sure! Think
If I had a coupe, maybe just for display
purposes @ VW shows. Maybe not.

I have a great Thule, I can get 4 bikes on. I don't leave it on when it isn't being used, it wastes gass and looks like ass.

I like racks on buses and squarebacks, but don't care for them on bugs or ghias.

I really don't know.... Udo, I love the way it looks on yours but I'm not sure about my 60's model...

About how much should I pay for a relatively new one (clean wood and all)?

Probably in the $400-$600 range if the wood is all there and not broken. They pop up here quite a bit in the classifieds. I gave $250.00 plus a set of early bug pop-outs for mine about 6 years ago.

Useful, yes. Stylish, no. Makes an elegant car look like a supermodel with leg braces.

Honestly, roof racks on Ghias are cool and useful too! But the decklid rack is better on a KG. The rook rack somewhat distorts its roof's slick lines.
