Any guess on Beetle year? |
The first VW Beetles arrived in the UK in 1952, when British servicemen returned home with their cars. In the same year John Colborne-Baber, who went on to become one of the first official UK Volkswagen dealers, began to import small numbers of VW Beetles for US Air Force personnel who were stationed in Kent. The following year, Volkswagen Motors Ltd was established, becoming the first official importer of new Volkswagen cars into the UK |
Amazingly, this Beetle survives to this day and is still in the UK!! The car was imported from Germany in 1951 and was laid up in a garage in 1969 in Windsor. It has not been on the road since. _________________ 1947 Beetle

Wow... How did you figure that out? Could you read the license plate number and track it down? _________________ How to Post Photos

Can someone translate this ad into English. please? I'm fascinated to read what they have to say about a split with 'large window' tail lights. |

OK here is a recent pic from the same angle.
The door panels are similar but it is hard to tell if they are the same.
Cheers,
Jean |
Question regarding your door panels:
Do you know if there is any padding behind the cloth, or is it just laid on the hard backing? |

The headline says:
"There are only 15016 of the 1949 VWs still running.
But thatīs because we built just 46000 of them."
The ad is from the 60s (I think 1967) and they wanted to tell the people that VWs are so well made that many of them last a long time.
They said:
"You can see of course his age of 18 years. But many other cars of that age you do not see at all anymore. Because they ended at the scrapyard.
On the Volkswagens you can easily swap the parts and even later ones will fit."
And so on. _________________ Master of my domain! |

Hi Ev. I first stumbled across this car in te early 2000's, quite by chance. I had never seen this photograph of the car in Farnham until last week. The car's body is currently in quite a poor state, but it retains its original fenders and surprisingly most of the rare pre-49 parts. The chassis number is 69234. _________________ 1947 Beetle
