The number 3 had 5 louver on each side of the rear decklid and was painted grey. It also had a chromed popesnose and stock hubcaps. Number 1 and 2 were painted black. Number 2 and 3 were basically indentical except for the colour and some details in the equipments such as the hubcaps and popesnose.

Number 1 was black and had 4 louvers on each side of the decklid.

This is the only photo I have seen of it online. Maybe there still are others out there?

The pic of the little car on the heb was released in a 1952 issue of the "Gute Fahrt" magazin. In an article about the first
100 000 Km meeting in 1952.

Under the pic it says:
Among the lottery prices was this miniatur Volkswagen. The midget test-drivers reported it would be "just great".

My guess is, the little car was a gift of the Hebmüller company to the organisators of the meeting, to be used as one of the tombola prices.
It seems to be brought along on the Heb and as such an early one with a
Rhineland licence plate it is guessable the car was still in the hands of the company in 1952. So they showed up for some promotion and brought this little car along.

Heb number 1 had banana bumpers:
(Heb number 1 is the one I'm building a replica of. See some details in the links in my signature. Wink)

And number 2 (and 3) had grooved bumpers.
The number 2 also had special hubcaps only seen on one other beetle sold to the Emperor of Abyssinia. (That split was displayed on the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1951.)

Number 2:

I'm sorry, but which was sold to the Emperor of Abyssinia, Heb #2 or the Beetle at the Frankfurt Show?

I'm sorry if I didn't write it out too clearly? Well, it was the split with the same one off hubcaps that was sold to the Emperor of Abyssinia.

I rewrote the text.

Hello
Here we have this one.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Note the round jack hole, made of a very early car.

Here another view.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And here are two more pics. The first one is quite common.
The second one, most will not know.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Is that the same car with updated rear view mirror?
Same strange hubcaps but on first pics color filled bumper groove and on later pics just chrome.

Yes, I've got those pictures too. Those are all the number 2.

All the three first prototypes are made from -46 sedans that is the reason for the round jackpoint. You can see the special hubcaps in a few of those pictures.

You can also see on the rearview pictures on both the number 1 and 2 that the decklids still have the pre-49 pressing for the licenceplate. Too hard to tell if the number 3 have it or not from the pictures posted here.

Hi Hebster,
i think you are wrong.
Chassis number of Heb Nr. 1 is 908XX and the chassis number of Heb Nr. 2 is 963XX
Heb 1 was black/red and Heb 2 was just black.
So Heb nr. 1 was on a December 1948 chassis wich had round holders for the jack anf Heb 2 was on a Januar 1949 chassis with also round holders.
They were not made out of 1946 cars.
Bye Christian
PS normaly there is no X behind the chassis number - i just adet it so nobady could copy the cars without knowing the real numbers

Hi Christian
He aint talked about Nr 14-00001 and 14-00002.
He meant the first and the second made prototypes before the body numbers started at the serial type 14 cars.

Hi Carsten,
yes i understand this but from the papers i have in copy i can see that at the 10.02.1949 still no VW Heb was build.
It is written taht VW is waiting for the first prototyp - so i think that even the prototyps were stamped.
Bye Christian
PS It is also written that even to the date 10.02.1949 VW had not given Hebmuller a contract to develope or produce the cars yet

I thought the very first prototype and maybe also the next ones where made by Hebmüller without any order from Wolfsburg. They developed the cars on their own and hoped for interest from Wolfsburg.

You think the prototypes allready where stamped with 14-00xxx numbers?
I thought this here had been 14-00001 The first serial car. Is there any proof of these theories?
