funny how your plate says "volkswagen" on the bottom and the other plate says it on the top. One is probably older then the other

Norman- Actually I believe it's on account of one being a "front" and the other is a "rear". They probably make a set. If you look closely you will see that the mounting holes are elongated and diagonal so that that can fit the early "BIG" California Plates from 1947-1955 as well as the later "regular sized" plates from 1956 on up. That makes me believe that these frames must date from the time period around 1956 or so. Certainly among the earliest and rarest of VW Dealer Plate Frames I've ever personally run across.

mine is earlier than since no elognated holes for the smaller plate, i wonder what year cotton goff opened up

Hi, all i have just got my birth certificate and it states it was sent to competition motors in 1954. love to see some early pictures of the dealership if anyone has any.
