I am toying with the ideal of installing a quick disconnect system for my steering wheel. Does anyone know the shaft diameter and number of splines?
Thanks in advance |

'73 or '74? The shafts are different. _________________ --- The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at and repair.

I don't know the diameter or number of splines, but VW only used two sizes for these older cars: "the larger diameter" and "the smaller diameter". The '73 uses "the smaller diameter" where as the '74 uses "the larger diameter". _________________ VW-181 shirts and stickers.

By the parts book the smaller shaft did not start till late 74. I have 2 74 cars with the large size produced in Jan. 74 and my July 74 car has the small size. It looks like the cars with the casted housing are early and the columns with the plastic covers are the late smaller size. |

Weird, both my '74's have the late bits! But I agree, the break is not at the year. _________________ --- The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at and repair.
