So did all kombi's come with a pin stripe or was it just an option? _________________ I want a real garage.

OK, here are some detail shots of the pinstripe on my original paint South African RHD 57 kombi:
This door is not original to the bus. You can see the pinstripe is placed differently. Note where the pinstripe has worn how the blue paint has been protected underneath it:
The pinstriper got a bit of a speed wobble here:
|
This "speed wobble" looks like it was made as who ever's had passed over the 2 blobs of paint underneath each blob. Could this account for the variety of spacings? They just differ from bus to bus due to being done by hand.... _________________ I want a real garage.

my og paint dove blue 57 had a pin stripe along the belt line. It was faded enough to have my painter hand paint it back on and then i faded it out to match the bus _________________ FOLKS |

for the pinstripe on our January 1956 Westy Greg wanted it to be in the right place, so marked where the pinstripe was on his 55 and my 53, and brought the tape along when we got it pinstriped.

This is Joey's PG/SG. I went all around the bus. Awesome pinstripe!
You can see some thicker places where the pinstriper re-loaded the paint brush.
Here the line is higher behind the front door:
reloaded the brush before restarting the back hatch?
paint is a bit wobbley at the front edge of the passenger door

This photo shows up regularly, and I am fascinated by it every time.
Is this just workers leaving the plant at the end of the day?
If so, is the guard checking every vehicle out?
Trying to prevent a Johnny Cash style "one piece at a time" inside job?
Three Brown/Brown standards behind the pinstripe Kombi?
All four buses "No rear bumper"?
And what about the dude in leather with the satchel?

Am I mistaken that super early barndoors didn't have a rear bumper?
Ribbed Beetle bumpers make those splits also. _________________ Barndoor Mafia

Since the plates are bungeed on I'm thinking either test drive or maybe a drive to load it on the train? The dude in leathers is waiting for the standard sunroof to come out so he can carjack it. |

those buses in the back appear to be grey on grey, so I imagine this photo is probably 1951? I think there would be more contrast apparent if they were brown/brown standards _________________ drive your split. |

I was just looking closer and I was thinking 1951 too and the Standard Buses look to be the 3-tone paint scheme.
Super Early Sunroof Standard too. WANT _________________ How to Post Photos

Oh, yes.
I think Campingbox is correct. Bungeed license plates, workers driving to transport new vehicles.
And the worker with the Sunroof Standard sez: "I may only be driving it for 1 kilometer, but, Dude, I'm rocking the sunroof al fresco!!" _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS
