here's an interesting mod to the back cabinet I found on the web] |
I've thought about the same thing. On my Weekender rear cabinet, it seems that there is wasted space in the upper part of that rear cabinet. A rear facing access hole (And new shelf) would cure that. Thought about the rear door as well. Then a part of me, says I am only a care taker of this van and leave it stock.
If I was retired, I seriously think about building my own rear cabinet with the same footprint as the stock one, but completely different doors / shelves. _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

I just love this.
Are the rest of us so shy? I guess I am, but with a couple more vids like Tim's, I'd probably feel encouraged to make my own.
What do we all have in common? A love for seeing what everyone else has done to--and has in--their vans!
OK, anyone else? _________________ -- Andrea

Nice video, but... I have to ask ya - do you wear seat belts when you drive?
If you say "yes", I have to ask again - why bother with them at all?
Has anybody ever mentioned to you about objects in motion staying in motion when the box they travel in comes to a sudden stop. Like a collision at 50mph.
Anything behind your head is going to keep flying forward at 50mph.
All those tools you have behind the passenger seat...why don't you run off to the circus and let them tape balloons to your body to throw knives at you.
I not deliberately trying to be mean to you, but I used to make my living as an accident photographer and it is really amazing to see what a pencil left laying on the shelf under the rear window of a car can do to the back of a human skull. |

This is a really interesting thread I've come across a few times over the years but never added my 2c. My van is a 1984 Devon Moonraker converted in Devon, England. Started its life as a GL tintop I believe. Engine is fairly stock, but I think the A/C is aftermarket. Didn't work of course, so I pulled the compressor anyway.
Here's a comprehensive video:
