|
|
I have a set of four cast aluminum wheels that are in need of polish and paint. What can I expect to pay per wheel for this detailing? Are there any particular shops that people have had good luck with in the past? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much... |

Well, although I haven't had a ton of response, I'm going to assume that I'm not the only one in the Midwest that is interested in restoring vintage rims. So for future reference this is what I found out.
Wheel Tech of Omaha, NE will refinish/ repair just about anything including cast, magnesium, multipiece, etc. I was quoted around $125 a wheel or less and a discount if I did a whole set. This compares very well with other companies which tend to charge around $150 for the 15" and smaller size wheels.
Turn around time was quoted as being two to seven days, start to finish.
I'm dropping off my wheels on Monday... |

Got them back a couple weeks ago and thought I should post a follow up.
I paid $450 for the refinshing but I'm not completely happy with the job. The clear coated portions of the wheels have several bumps per wheel where there seems to have been a spec of something that grew into a sizeable chunk after 4 coats of clear. Also the flat black portions of the wheel are glossy now by virtue of the clearcoat sprayed on it.
I have to say that I hoped for more but I can be sure that the wheels are protected and will be ready for many more years of service. |

You never mentioned what rims you have.
If you have the EMPI 5's,you could've ordered four brand new polished rims for $600 _________________ die schwarzen Schafe #666 |

The wheels are American Racing Spectres and if I could figure out how to load pics on this thing, I would post a shot of two but instead it just pisses me off so... sorry. If you do a google search you'll find about three pictures in the whole of the world wide web of these wheels. To say that they are rare is an incredible understatement. |
