I was in Beijing in 2006. Didn't see one VW...
This pic looks like it was taken in front of a hospital we visited. Not by choice though.
I believe it was Beijing United Family Hospital _________________ WTB Brundage Motors - Jacksonville, Fla Plate Frame

Yes, you are absolutely right! A baywindow in China. And in such a good shape!
It looks like it was sold there when it was new. The M-plate has destination code HG, which stands for Hong Kong. Normally the steering wheel would have been on the right for a Hong Kong bus I think. But this one has it on the left. So may be it came to Beijing via the harbour of Hong Kong.
So here is the M-plate, and it's translation :
If I read it right then this is what is written on the plate in the picture:
62 154 629
508 520 530 531
J4J450 032 094 506 507
24 6 7090 HG 2214 31
***** 1st line ******
62 154 629 = chassisnumber
6: modelyear 1976
2: this is an extra number that was
used to distinguish 1970ties and
1960ties chassisnumbers. The '2'
would turn into a '3' as soon as
1 milion vehicles of this model
had been produced. This never
happened with the Transporter
production.
154629: the serialnumber.
****** 2nd line ******
508 = Mcode: Ventilationwindows in slidingdoors (2 windows alltogether)(when ordered with M520)
520 = Mcode: With sliding door on left and right side
530 = Mcode: Automatic step on passengerside. (Vehicles with M520 only have the automatic step on the passenger side)
531 = Mcode: Tougher rear torsionbars (like on transporter version)
****** 3rd line ******
J4J450 = paint- and interiorcode
J4: paintcolour lower half -
Reef blue L57H
J4: paintcolour upper half -
Reef blue L57H
50: doorpanels and seats -
material: leatherette
colour: black
032 = Mcode: lockable cap for fueltank
094 = Mcode: Lockable engine lid
506 = Mcode: Brake servo
507 = Mcode: Ventilation windows in cabindoors
****** 4th line ******
24 6= this code is a date. This date is mostly
a few days later than the actual
production date.
week 24, day 6 (=Saturday), 1976
12th of June, 1976
7090 = code related to production planning
HG = destinationcode: Hong Kong
2214 = 22: Microbus
1: LHD, slidingdoor right
4: standard version, 9 seater with M501 (walk-thru version but with two seater passenger seat next to driver's seat)
31 = 3: Type 4 engine with carburettors (2000cc engine in 1976)
1: manual 4-speed gearbox
Looks like this bus is pretty original. I can see nearly all the extra's in the pictures. Do you own this bus gzg1406? _________________ currently starring in my fleet:

so its an original Hong KOng bus!!!
24 a delux, probably ment for carrying some passengers.
it ended up in mainland china, though. HOW?
as we all know its not legal to import vehicles older than 10 years into china, unless they are already there by now.
This makes this bus the only known bay window in CHina Republic,
It has no tags, and it stands still,
I wonder whos it is in deed,
It be cool to "rent" this bus, to have a cruise in mainland |

| It's amazing to have one in Beijing. T2 is also extremely rare in Hong Kong! We have some old bugs though. |

on account of some reason of historical for we all know(as Cold War ) .Until pre-1980s, most of “legal”import car obliged to pass by Hong kong

TWO Sliding doors!?!?!?'m fully unconvinced Offical-T2 had TWO Sliding doors coz I never saw any T2 had it in almost photo.
sorry for my poor english~~~
BTW:The bus was served in MOFA of China that a reason why it keeps originality up to now.
Regretful,It was scrapped.  _________________ Cleavage=Split+Titty=Splitty |
