And it would appear very sensitive also!
I guess the mot man would fail you if you didn't have that luggage rail place huh?! _________________

Yea the pin was on it when i got the bus, the clock works but does slow down pretty quick, i may look for a circlip see if it makes a difference.
I had all my pods painted and the steering wheel so they at least match...... They also miss stamped the number with the extra 4 at the start of the number _________________ 64 356 C Coupe |

So I've learned a lot from this thread already, still got a question concerning this clock that came with a 50 split bug project. The face seems to make it a late 1953 DLX clock, but how does the spring winding work with those earlier clocks? The 55 that Everett postet seems to have the integrated windingwheel like the 8 day kienzle clock, mine seemed to have a side shaft as used on split bugs. was it the same on busses ?
The face has a VDO Logo on it. pointers are discolored from age, should be an off white originally.
somebody at some time unfortunately cut a hole in the back, obviously to get access to the winding mechanism, so the production date stamp is missing ( at least the interesting second digit )
Haven't put any efforts to get it working, but since my pops is an oldschool watchmaker, this shouldn't be the problem.

as with my clock thats the way. and thats the way it works on split bugs, with an additional extension the winder even pokes through the passenger glove box.I would like to know if that's the same on BD Dlxs |
Yes this style winds from the right side like a split bug. The winder looks like a split bug winder but the winder is a little shorter. This is the clock from my bus.

Here's the resto of my 1953 DLx clock.
Tried to keep some patina as I flat clearcoated the cleaned original paint face/pointers and polished/straightened the original ring.
started with this
welded the housing
had to fabricate and repair the broken winding shaft extension
My Dad restored the clock to below +- 1min a day ( he's a professional watchmaker since 1959 )
After glass media blasting and repainting all parts ready for assembling
it's a 53 (Along with a friends 52' bug clock I took the shaft dimensions from)

Thanx !!
@RockStock:
Sure I can restore your clock, But you could try just a traditional local watchmaker ( I know that there are not as many around anymore, since the business has gone from repairing to changing batteries and throwing the used watches in the bin-as with todays automotive engineering).
The clock itself is a very simple device and often they just have to be cleaned, regreased and only some minor repairwork done to the bushings and shafts, something a good watchmaker can do. that said it is nearly impossible to find spare parts for these , if something is really broken, still it can be fabricated by professional shops, even the gears!
only time will tell... _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !
