So, do any of you VW peeps cross over? My "other" obsession is Mercedes- Benz. 1985 Mercedes 300TDT Turbo Diesel Wagon (Wife's car), 1972 280SE 4.5 (in progress), and a 1975 O309D Bus with a Westfalia kit are my current "kids" on THAT side of the family. How about you? _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I'd love to get my hands on an early 80's diesel wagon, but here is what I really want:

My wife got me a BMW M/C for my 40th birthday, I'd like to return the favor to her with a 60s pagoda top SL for her 50th. Saving my pennies! _________________ 2000 M Roadster

i like the pointy finned ones and the earlier round rear end ones. I am guessing mid 60's and earlier on the pointy and late 50's early 60's on the rounded ones. ami right here, Tram? |
There is an article about those in Practical Classics this month.
When I have the space I would like to get a unimog. |

Unimogs are great, but they're a total workhorse- No luxury or comfort at all. Great for pulling stumps, terrible for driving to church on Sunday! _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

'83 300cd is the other car. TurboD with about 365k on it. Needs a tune up though 'cause it wont top 98 on the flat right now. It'll usually do a bit over 100 given some time _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

My 3 pointed obsession is a 1959 190SL. Had it for over 25 years. We have a 1961 300SL in the family too. I have rehabbed many pontons. If an X framed Cabriolet b of some sort happened my way, I would be VERY happy.
As some of you know, we operated "German Car Repair" for about 1/2 century. The cars with the stars on them and the little hot rods with the air cooled engines in the back built in the same area were our specialties. |

I agree...more Mercedes in the junkyard!
I have a friend trying to sell an '85 300CD if anyone is looking. Upper-east Tennessee. Peace! _________________

Question for the experts out there: What's the review of the G-class?
I've been thinking of getting one for my next 'daily driver' because I'd like a little better towing capabilities. _________________ 20‰

I've been looking for a nice 240D, manual tranny, crank windows. If anyone out there knows of one for sale let me know. Also, any advice about what to look for would be helpful (aside from rusty frames/floors - hmmm, sounds familiar!). _________________ '69 SingleCab

Gelaendewagens are great. A lot of folks think they're overpriced, but they're a workhorse with a LOT of features. the M class is a poor substitute, IMHO. Compared to the G-Wagen, it's a toy. It's a tank that drives like a luxury car. Those that have them love them. I've never heard a negative about a G-Wagen from a G- Wagen owner. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! When I was stationed in Germany in 1966-68 a friend had a beautiful 1949 black Mercedes. When he got sent back to the states, he offered it to me for $100 bucks. I passed on it. DUH!
How I wish I had it now. Oh well. |
