I've owned diesel Mercedes since 16. I've had a few w123' sedans(240D 4 speed and 300D), an SDL, and now an '87 300D. I've got a lead on a one owner 240D 4 speed that I'm tempted to get but I'm trying to save up for my first beetle. But I cut my teeth on these old oil burners.

240D 4 speed is about the equivalent of a beetle, especially if the one you have a lead on does not have AC...

It HAD AC until the second day I had it. Seller did the usually trick of a quick charge. But the engine had low compression so it wasn't as quick as a stick shift 240 could have been and they are zippy.

They are great city cars- friends had a manual 240d in NYC that was loads of fun.

Are you on Peachparts as well?

I had the opportunity to repair and smog a 1982 380SL for an old friend that
can no longer drive since, he is 82 yr.'s old now.

His home is in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains and the car sat for the last 5 years. needless to say, Rats as big as a cat had been in the engine compartment and chewed most of the main harness and parts of the K-Jet wiring also.

Also found they had enter the air filter snorkel and eaten part of the filter.

But, after doing the repairs I brought it to work and it passed the smog test
and evap.

This was a first for me driving this Benz and I am really impressed with the
power and handling.

Now I will try selling it for him.

I have/had a 1974 Mercedes SL450 roadster. Garage kept, rust free California car. It was parked out front because we were going to sell it. I say had because last Sunday at midnight a girl texting and driving slammed in the back of it pushing it into a construction dumpster. She had two passengers in the car that jumped out and ran. Officer said he smelled pot in the car but couldn't find any.

Her insurance offered me $9800 for the car. I was going to ask the average NADA value of the car even though I think it was worth more ($17,500). I have an older appraisal for $15,000.

Should, and could I get another appraisal even though it was in an accident? Can they tell me what it was worth before? Just thinking out loud before I call someone.

Super bummed.

yes, you should get an after the fact appraisal. that looks like it was a nice car and those models are finally starting to come up in value. Be a pain in the ass to the insurance company, don't settle to quickly and drag it out as long as you can.
