A guy here in Dallas has a '73 220 for sale for a few hundred bones. The body is really clean but the engine isn't getting fuel. Turns over fine with good compression. Pm me if interested.

This 1959 190D was my project for a while. It had a few hundred thousand poorly maintained miles on it (smoked more than any car I have ever seen). The body was nearly flawless though. Aside from the cheesy color, the was amazingly complete and original. Right before I graduated high school a tree fell on it (How about that for a graduation gift). I ended up selling it to a Mercedes collector for $800 who had it trucked to his body guy in Denver.

1972 W114 280CE coupe,

was very rusty though, these cars have a nasty habit of the sunroof drains blocking and then rusting the sills and floor out, drove beautifully though, I guess holes in the floor don't stop the car going.

I have owned a few others, but that's all I have pictures of for now.

I loved the big lazy V8, such fun flooring it at the lights and leaving all the "kids" in their Japanese cars wondering what the hell just happened.

Mine was plagued with suspension problems, spent a lot of money trying to fix it, but gave up in the end and sold it. Was so frustrating when the car was leaking suspension oil, wouldn't lift up etc... etc..

I miss everything about the car except the stupid suspension.

Always wanted a 6.3 too, they have that classic Benz look with the stacked headlights and big front grille.

We never got the CE coupes officially over here. Too bad, too, because the big honkin' dual Zeniths made the car into a pig. Those carbs are not fun to overhaul, either, and often need double gasketing because they warp. My mother- in- law has a 50,000 mile Euro 1976 280SLC with the dual cam injected engine that I told her not to buy... she's driven it twice in the last five years, and wants to sell it now. Rolling Eyes BUT- that injected twin cam 6 will rip the doors off a U.S.Spec 4,5!

The twin cam engines we got over here had a Holly- esque 2bbl that sucked canal water, as well. Both the single and dual cam carbed engines drink gas like a V-8 with locked brakes.

Question for the experts out there: What's the review of the G-class?

I've been thinking of getting one for my next 'daily driver' because I'd like a little better towing capabilities.

Gelaendewagens are great. A lot of folks think they're overpriced, but they're a workhorse with a LOT of features. the M class is a poor substitute, IMHO. Compared to the G-Wagen, it's a toy. It's a tank that drives like a luxury car. Those that have them love them. I've never heard a negative about a G-Wagen from a G- Wagen owner.

Nave a 99ML430...did 85% of the Moab trails with ease, but I did not want to tear my plastic bumpers so I did not get too aggressive Very Happy ..I know Tram that you say it is not a benz, but, when my son was born, my father made us buy it from him for 7K in 2006......I could not resist! Just had a Factory Recall on PS issues and while at the dealership waiting for my Not a real Benz, had to drool all over the new GWagen...only 101K, so I may have to wait a few years on that one.
My fave of all time was a 1980 300 SD Turbo Diesel. Had 250K when I bought it, 302K when I sold it and I never had to do anything but oil and filter and tires. Should have never let that one go

Sprinters are great. Too bad M-B kicked Chrysler to the curb.

I think you've seen my "Pre- Sprinter", yes?

All Daimler wanted on the Chrysler "merger" was some of their patents, and mass production techniques.
We in the industry knew it would not last long. The joke was, that when someone asked the germans how Daimler/Chrysler was pronounced, they responded that the "Chrysler" was silent.
After working for a company that made fuel system components for Mercedes, and saw their "modern" engineering, I would not own one.
We tried to tell them in a polite way that one of their designs was flawed, and the response was, "We know it, but build it that way anyway." The design caused a very high scrap rate in production, and we had to include that scrap in our cost. This about tripled the cost of the part, which is one of the reasons that Mercedes parts are so high. Saturn had a part that was very similar to the Mercedes, but they listened to us, and changed the design a little. Their part is about 1/3 the cost of the Mercedes.
