Last night we got this:
| Quote: | As of 5:18p Light Drizzle Fog/Mist 42°F
Tonight: Periods of rain before 7pm, then periods of rain and snow between 7pm and 9pm, then periods of snow after 9pm. Widespread blowing snow after 9pm. Areas of dense fog before 7pm. Low around 8. Wind chill values as low as -8. Windy, with a southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west between 25 and 30 mph. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. |
Then we got this:
| Quote: | | Due to the predicted inclement weather and potential hazardous driving conditions, The Children’s House campus may close on Wednesday, January 30th even if Northwestern Michigan College is not closed. Check the school’s web site after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning for an announcement regarding our closure. |
And I woke up to this:

The kids around here had a snow day yesterday. I guess even some of the industrial businesses were closed for second and third shifts last night. No matter the weather, I always get to go to work. A few stores in our chain got to close early yesterday, waaay early because they are close to I-90 and I-35, both of which closed yesterday due to blizzard conditions.
Here's what we have right now:
| Quote: | Now through 08:00 AM CST January 30, 2008
Wind chill warning in effect... West winds from 15 to 20 mph...with gusts to 25 mph in open areas... Will continue through 8 AM. As air temperatures hover anywhere from 5 below to 15 below zero...this will continue to produce wind chills from 25 below zero...down to 40 below zero for those seeing the stronger winds in open areas. Slow improvement in the wind chills will occur after sunrise...and temperatures begin their slow climb back toward zero.
|
Just checked, a lot of the kids in the region have a snow day again today, but in my city, they just have a two hour delayed start. _________________ VW-less right now...looking

| -10 on the ol' thermometer here today. Madison schools are closed (as are all other districts in the area) and they RARELY close, even with a lot of snow. |

Third day off for my wife today. A lot of the kids at her school walk and the sidewalks are covered with 3' of plowed snow. They said the school can't insure their safety so...
That means I get sausage soup for dinner!!! (it takes all day to make) |

Pic of my dog in the plow drift off the edge of my driveway. This pic was taken in dec, the week before Christmas. The ground there is FLAT. The drift was 6 feet high, I was not sure where else I would push the snow for the rest of the winter. We had over 30" in Dec alone.
It has since melted a bit, but still have not seen the grass in the front yard since Dec 2nd.

We were on the edge of a storm here yesterday. My parents, just 4 miles away got absolutely nothing. We got about an inch, some friends 10 miles away got 8 inches. Another storm is supposed to blow through tonight with 8-10" possible. Here's my yard right now. The brown out in the distance is just across the Snake river, less than a mile away. Nothing there either.

Of all places we got some snow here. Not a place you would expect to see snow or at least associate snow with, on the peak of of Mt. Haleakala on the island of Maui, Hawaii, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Hard to beleive I was just riding the winding roads to the peak with my sportbike a few weeks ago.
A pic the news posted.
The view from my garage.

Was 54* in Indy yesterday, then the cold front came through in a matter of a half-hour, 70MPH winds, thunderstorms, rain and the temps dropped 10* in 2 mins. No snow, but 24* with a windchill of 0* and 30mph winds today.. _________________ For those, who wish to contribute to the Dave Mayes scholarship fund, please PM me, read here.

I'll be watching the Pats make sports history there in Phoenix (well, Glendale) on that "cold" Sunday.... from the warmth of my home in New England (and with about 20 other friends.....) _________________ John Henry

I will be "freezing" my butt off at the FBR Open Sunday for the better part of the day, then make it home in time to watch the game. _________________ (16:05:01) twinwindows: She prolly got a bigger dick then you

No, that's in Fahrenheit.
By the way, it would not have been as bad if it wasn't just 51 degrees on Monday.
And hey! It's 0 degrees right now! A heat wave.
(I guess I am just ready for spring. Getting the old "VW withdrawals" already.) _________________ VW-less right now...looking

Lets see, up here in sunny Alberta... On Saturday it was nice for a January ~ -3*C, then by Sunday morning it was ~-30*C And since then it has NOT gotten warmer than -30*C, with lows as low as -43*C. And it aint supposed to get warmer for the next week or so. Now try to keep generators running so you can have power AND keep a '89 Diesel Jetta running in those temps. The school buses haven't been running all week... Fun fun fun!
Oh well, its January, its allowed to get cold here... _________________ '71 Tin Top Westfalia
