Interesting, but .... whoa... I suppose you can probably use this technique to get white wall tires that you otherwise couldn't - such as performance tires, knobby off-road tires, or something like that. But man, I'm just not sure about that kind of material removal....
(by the way, you can use the YouTube button to embed the video, like this:)

There is no way I would grind away 1/2 the sidewall. You are setting yourself up for a serious blow out and crash. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

I thought this was common knowledge? The small amount of black rubber covering up the sides of the embedded whitewall isn't providing significant strength to the tire. That said, I'm not gonna do it. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

Please let us know how that tire warranty holds up after you have a blowout and roll your bug. |

Didn't you ever see a car with whitewalls scuff a curb and you see this big streak of white? Yeah - that is how th manufacturers do all those different width of white walls - think layer of plack over the wide white.
Obviously it would void a tire warranty - but it works - You do need to be careful, but there are also folks using a similar method to paint whitewalls on blackwall only tires - grind off the lettering and spray with krylon fusion. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

Yeah, this is common stuff in the Lowrider world
Had a couple sets of cut white walls and never had a blow-out, but they get dirty real easy and are hard to keep clean. You also can see the ghost-outline of the letter's when they get real dirty too. |

I will say that those grinding wheels with the view-holes are awesome. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife
