The birth certificate states that the original upholstery of my '61 RHD SO34 is dark beige Leatherette. I have heared some people say it must be the same 'mustard coloured' material as used in the SO42.
Having recently restored my bus (obtained from Zimbabwe last year) I can officially state that it is not the same as the SO42, because under several layers of cloth seat covers (six in one instance) I have revealed the original material!

Birth certificates from VW are notoriously inaccurate. Can you post some pics
of the material up close as well as how it's attached on the bottom cushion. Were there any other parts of the bus covered with this as well? _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Will post some more photos later this week, in close up and showing how the material is tacked on the rear seats and how the material is attached to the spring base of the front seat.
I can confirm that all seats have same material. The front seat base is ripped beyond repair, but the flip seat 'humped style' is covered with same material, as is the screwed on panel at rear of seat back (this can be seen in the photo posted already)
I'm pretty convinced its all original, but prepared to bow down to more experienced Westy experts.

I've pinged a Westy expert I know to get some feedback. Maybe Lind will see this thread and respond as well. Westfalia would do almost anything if you paid them so anything is possible. The name of the fabric sounds like an early Bay Window vinyl that was available so that's why I thought it was odd. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

It's not impossible but unlikely.
Do you have the wedge pillows, spare tire cover and small piece of material next to the pull out jumpseat? _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Anything is possible, but It does seem odd that the VW birth cert should indicate what specific options you got from westfalia, does it say anything about tent, stove, toilet etc? Have you picked off a couple of staples to see if there is evidence of other earlier staples? maybe the og fabric was too bright for the owners taste Most of the early 61s seem to have the brown/orange/beige plaid that is not reproduced.
Out of curiosity does you're bus have the 368 and n23 mcodes like my rhd 61? l look forward to seeing some more pics, is this the bus that was advertised on ssvc last year?... |

Close up of material plus birth certificate extract:
The bus is the one advertised last year on the Split Screen Van Club Site
Was...
Nearing Completion...
Sadly no tent / toilet ...but has original big tent poles (complete)
Also no sign of an M code plate...not even evidence of old screw/rivet holes...and I did look very carefully in its usual place for SO34s

This seat isn't on a SO34 RHD?

Crofty,
Some LHD came with out them too...it just has a lid and is covered storage. The one Ive seen on a LHD flipseat came with 2 folding chairs maybe the owner will post some pics. |

Cabinets were not handed in the SO34. When in RHD format the jump seat cannot be fitted as it would foul the bench seat..shame! |

Notice how the wardrobe door is now facing into the gap between cabinets...no room on the end!

Oh, by the way..
The curtains and 'star' festoon are all down to the wife.
I guess a few of you have been there (Q: Why do you want a different bus when the one we have is the 'same'??)
The deal was I can have the SO34 if she can choose the curtains! (PS If anyone knows of a source of the red curtain material I would get a set made up and swap them when she is not looking! ) She really loved the SO42 I sold to buy the SO34 , but has come round to my way of thinking. The flip seat really gives some excellent chilling space!!
