So lately I've been getting the urge to get a different type of Notchback and have always love the 2002. Just a couple of days ago I stumbled across someone who has a couple of 2002's for sale, then he told me he also has a '68 1602. Anyone around here have one? Here are the pictures he sent me. I'm going to look at it tomorrow.

A 1602 is pretty much a 2002. It has the 1.6 motor instead of the 2.0 the later cars had. It's a bolt in swap.
The early cars are nice with the small bumpers and round taillights.
Check the rear shock towers for rust. Check the rockers.
Parts are available and they make nice summer toys.
I had a 74 a few years back

If you don't want that thing, give me the info. I've always loved those little cars. A friend of mine owned a '71 2002 years ago...many long roadtrips made successfully in that car. _________________ "sometimes i wish you could kick people through the internet..." |

Neil, i've had many 02's over the years....the 1602 is just an early version... those cars are great... I not too long ago actually gave away a 74 02, and the fellow took it to the crusher... it was complete and driveable...he was a moron...but anyway, I've gotten rid of most of my parts for them, but i did save the intake for two sidedraft webers!! _________________

| Yeah, I'd slap some webers on a hopped-up 2002 motor, put it in the classier (the earliest examples of ANY car are ALWAYS cooler) 1602 and roll it! |

Well, I went and looked at it today and decided to buy it. I couldn't control myself and I also bought a '75 2002. The 1602 has been parked for about 7 years and the key and title are lost, but the car is solid. The 2002 starts and idles pretty good, but I couldn't drive it at all because it is buried deep in the guys storage yard. It's going to take him all week to get back to the two cars and get them out. I paid a whopping $600 for the pair of them. We'll see in a week if I got a good deal or not. Here's the 2002:

Stop buying that crap and fix your VW's. Next thing is that you don't have money to come to the Classic. _________________ '65 Pearl White Sunroof 1500S Notch

And Jack, what's the classic? _________________ Brain Trust member #13

| Nice score. A friend of mine had a 2002 in the late 80's that had really wide tires. It was great for high speed handling, but it was a workout to put that thing into a parking space. |

Nice score.
Two weeks after I bought my fastback I found a cherry 2002 at the welding supply shop. Guy decided to sell it.
If I had not just bought the fastback that car would have been mine.
Love them. _________________

My very first BMW was a '76 2002. Great car, excellent handling. Getrag 4-speed was a joy.

I had a 68 2002
First year of 2002 but still had no trim like a 1602. so exterior was plain like a 1602 but had the 2.0 in it _________________ Thornton |

NICE find, always had a soft spot for old BMW's. There was a guy that lived on my street who ad tons of those things. He was always talking about how if you keep decent maintinance on them, they will treat you just as well back. I was entranced by VW Thing's at the time and decided to get one instead of an old BMW. _________________ '73 Thing
