I kinda like that Split in front better!!
I've talked to the gent who owns that car many times.. he's a good guy and he has stated it is Reed Green. (too light for Iceland Green, that pic was taken at 6:00am so not very good light)
Its a sweet 1955 3 Fold and a show winner here in AZ. _________________ DB

Click on the below picture for a larger version and you can see it in the right corner. Definitely Reed Green. This is from the 2007 Karl's Custom VW Show in Mesa AZ. Which was a huge success. Over 150 cars!!

The car in the pic above seems to have a red interior just like mine. This is the third reed or iceland green with a red interior I have seen. _________________ I love my 55 Oval. |

Hello the green 55 ragtop is my car, its Iceland green with red interior. Reed Green is lighter and I think a little grayer in color tones, here is a picture of my 55

If it's an original color for that particular decklid, it can only be L316 Almond Green which was a 1956/57-only Convertible color to commemorate the Millionth Beetle built. Much like how L 412 Diamond Green was used on sedans & sunroof'd cars. |

Interesting, because in the color/upholstery section here on the samba, the below car is listed as Iceland Green.. and Ive always known Iceland Green to be a MUCH darker color than your car. I think we once discussed this and you werent sure which it was.
However, Reed Green (which doesnt have an example).. but which has a color swatch as Your car looks a lot closer to Reed Green based on the information listed here on The Samba....

i saw the colour in the gallery as well and just assumed it was wrong.
i recently just had my car painted and i had the paint made for the iceland green code and it looks just like the car above.
the one below almost looks jungle green or something similar _________________ Cruiser pedals for sale (see my ad's)

That is certainly possible. Here is another source which are the scanned color code books which are on the Wolfburg West site. Certainly color on a computer screen isn't the best way to tell... But here are the 3 we are discussing.
Reed Green -
Iceland Green -
Jungle Green -
Based on these.. it certainly could be Iceland Green..(but the car in question is a little light) but then, who knows how close they got the paint when they mixed it.. also.. is it Glasurit? Spies-Hecker?, Diamont, PPG.... or something else...(I've seen the car up close... its definitely two stage paint)
Glasurit formulas are always the most accurate. I will wager it is as close to Iceland Green as they could get... its got a little more Mango in it than what I have seen Iceland Green cars painted. But I do believe the sample picture of Iceland Green in the Samba color combination section is wrong.. I think that is Jungle Green.
Whatever the color on that car is.. I agree.. its beautiful and really stands out!! I have a mango green Ghia and a pastel green Split (the one on the top pic is mine).. so I am partial to green... _________________ DB

i have seen more iceland green cars that look more like the car i asked about, not the dark green that the tech section shows. i think it may be jungle green too. _________________ Jesus Saves

i know but every time i go to a show it seems like there are 50 pastel green splits. i dont want it to blend in so much.
the car is a pretty late 52 crotch split (it doesnt have the hatch over the trans)
it has been sitting taken apart since the early 70's. the previous owner let it sit out for 1 week over the years and a bunch of stuff was stolen off of it. but i have got most of the parts since i got the car. _________________ Jesus Saves

Same as mine.. mine is July 3rd 1952.. and also doesn't have the hatch over the transmission.
When I bought mine it had a semi-decent old skool repainting on it from 1966. Car was repainted by the VW dealership in Roseburg OR. Its ugly.. it has problems, chips, small dents etc.... and although I know some think "patina" is a dirty word.. I decided not to paint it and just bring the paint back... when you have people like Matt Howard and Dave Sweinhagen telling you to not to paint it and leave it like it is.. as it has old skool cool factor.. I tend to listen to them.
50 Pastel splits!! where? I saw one at the classic last year, and I only know of 1 in the whole city of Phoenix... mine. So, they aren't that common..
Anyway.. enjoy your car.. no matter what color you paint it Im sure it will look good! _________________ DB
