We've seen the "My other car is" and "My first car was", so how about the first car/truck you ever drove (sitting on Daddy's lap doesn't count). I'll start off.....
My Dad had a beach buggy, which was my first drive, on the beach near Atlantic Beach, NC. It was a military surplus 1945 Dodge WC-52 3/4 ton truck the military called a weapons carrier. It was the basis for the popular 50's "Power Wagon." I was 12 years old at the time in the early 70's. _________________ I'm not losing my hair, it's just retired and relocating further south.

2004 BMW 745i
after getting my permit, I complained that my dad wasn't letting me drive, that I knew how to and could be a good driver, so he slammed on the brakes, pulled over, and said "here, drive then!"
that car has *NO* pedal or steering feel. _________________ I can haz beetle?

A green 1976 Toyota Carolla that my cousin and I hack sawed the top off of and made a "convertible" out of. We drove that car all summer in the back pasture. I think back on all the razor sharp pillars we left exposed, but hey, we didn't know better.
First car I drove on pavement was a 1974 Ford Econoline van with all the shag wagon valour interior. I was so embarrassed to take it to get my license , the driving inspector thought it was funny. |

First one I drove in the driveway was my dads 1960 Ford truck,352,3 on the tree and no p/s.
First car I drove on my own was a 1949 Desoto 4 door. I used to drive it to the store from my dads shop when I was about 13-14.

I took my driving test (in 1975) in a 70 Buick LeSabre....5 TIMES!!!!
NC at the time required a "three point turn" and I just couldn't do it with that big Buick boat. _________________ I'm not losing my hair, it's just retired and relocating further south.

The first car I ever drove is the same car I am driving today. 1970 beetle. 11years old, quietly pushed it out of the driveway late at night and cruised with my buddy for a couple blocks. I know my parents weren't too happy about it but what do you expect? They were the ones who put me on their lap when I was 5 years old to steer the car! They taught me, and I loved it. |
