| I found a gas heater I would like to buy for my 78. Unfortunately am not sure if it is the correct one seller says it is for type 4 if correct how hard is it to install has a whole lotta tubes coming out of it! Also what parts do I need to make sure it comes with? Where does the heat come out of inside the bus? I am assuming there is a fan to blow the hot air inside. Any answers or info on where to look for answers would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi,
I put a bn4 in my 71 it goes in the engine compartment. If the heater is out of a type 4 you might have to invent some parts. I've seen pictures of heaters under the rear seats and under the dash. Bn6 went under the bus. Look for a dash switch, fuel pump, glow/spark plug, for starters. Type2.com has a lot of information on some of the heaters.

| Thanks alot. Is the bn4 the one found in a beetle? Seller has a few different styles available any idea which one(s) would be easiest to fit out of the different styles that were made? Does your 71 have the spare inside by the rear hatch? My 78 does which intrudes quite a bit into engine compartment. I have what is called the pancake engine if that makes a difference. |

411/412 heaters were BA 4.
Late bay buses were BA 6.
The BA series were in-line with the stock heating system. Both used pre-heated air from the heater boxes.
Bugs used a BN 2 heater.
Early buses used a BN 4 heater.
The BN series were self-supported, they did not rely on the stock engine heat to pre-heat and work. |

| That would help. [email protected] If you happen to have dimensions(roughly) send those too. I find it is much more productive and faster talking on the phone if you could send I sure would appreciate asking some more questions. I checked out type2.com lots of good info there also thanks |

Hi 78 Bay
I put a SW gas heater in my 73 . Went in the engine compartment , I had to take out my tire well. Duct work runs up past the gas tank and comes out under back seat. |

| See if the guy has any of the duct work, and the control system for a bus. There is a duct that will carry the heated air past the gas tank, and through the box under the rear seat. I have one mounted in my 74, I'll try and get a digital pic for you. Have you tried google? I remember reading a pretty good article by a British fellow who put a gas heater in, and he had excellent pictures of his progress as he went. Jeremy |
