I can get these rear window inside vents for '71 Supers made up if I can get enough people to order them. Mine are intact but crumbling and can be cloned in fiberglass. So who wants a pair? I'll have a better idea on pricing when I have some idea of how many we need. I'm not out to make money but the fiberglass guy is.

I have abot 3 square inches on the top of each one of mine, so if they can be made I am game to get a pair. Price, Fiberglass is cheap. Lets see what the price turns out as.

My super, which had been 'restore' a few decades ago, doesn't have those vents. At least not showing, I can feel somthing under the headliner though. Where do they connect? What is the purpose?

I also thought that mine were hidden under the headliner. I removed the headliner on a scraped car and discovered that the rear pillars are bulbous inside. So, probably yours are missing too. They connect to the rear window rubber at one end, and the headliner at the other. They are used for fresh air ventilation from inside to outside of the car. They are one year only parts and not produced anymore.

i think they are more like a half year only thing, because i had a 71 super that had the later style 3 small vents on each side. it was definatly a 71.

Not enough people yet. I'll post on some other forums.

Anyone here belong to "Super Beetles Only"? (Ryan?)

I would definitely take a pair if made available. Will you reannounce or pm all those interested. My 71 came from florida and even though the car was only 9 years old at the time, they were just dust when i got it.

So far, three people from 1302 group are likely to buy. One of them is Mark (The Doc).

Hi there,

My 1971 VW1302 Automatic needs them too. I hope that they will have very nice quality, but not so high price.

Best regards,

Seems to be a first class shop. He was making some nice fenders for a Model T rod when I was there. Not a home based business but a real shop.

So far only about 15 people have responded but I can see if thats enough for a reasonable price. The price can only come down so much for volume anyway since he has to make each one individually and with the same amount of material. All we really save on is spreading out the cost of his time to make the initial mold.

They are used to extract air for better heat and ventilation and are shaped to create airflow over the rear window for defrosting. They may have had smoke extraction in mind also.

I'll be back

I went back to the fiberglass shop. He says he needs to find a way to fill imperfections on my pieces so the copies will turn out smooth. He's going to speak to a bodyman.

He asked if they will need to be painted because that requires a softer sandable gel coat or should he use a hard coat and produce them all in white or beige. They were all beige or off white right?

Here's his shop>

There is no other headliner color option, so I think there is only one color for the vents. It must be off-white.

The fiberglass guy is ready to go when we get organized. He has found a body filler for chrome that is soft enough to smooth the finish without damaging the pieces.

It will be $85 a pair. Not sure what to do next. Should I get some kind of a deposit from everyone interested or what?

Well, it costs more than I expected, but they will be in my car at last Cool Giving a deposit is OK for me.

Jim, I can only pay via PayPal. Do you have an account? Thanks.
