Where did you buy them? Are they battery operated or wired into your lights?

Thank You

I got them off of eBay. I actually bought one about a year ago and had plans on making it a third brake light. Then I decided I didn't like any of my mounting options for a third brake light and decided to buy another and make them come on with the running lights. Yes, I tied them into my license plate light. I did have to drill two small holes to allow the wire to go inside the decklid. Being that it isn't the stock decklid I wasn't to worried about the holes.

They are actually made for Jetta trunks.

Got the holes for the coolant pipes just about finished. The pipes fit through very snug, and both threaded right in. I just gotta open them up a little bit more.

Plus my Jamie Rivers trailer hitch just arrived and looks great.

Here, quick, some cooling balm . . . :

Installed a correct "D" pulley for a little more fan rpm and the chance to use the proper 905mm belt. Apparently, the pulley that I got in Albuquerque in 2011 to get rid of the cheap new brazilian wobbler that came with the car was a smaller earlier pulley that gave me a floppy loose belt even when there were no shims between the generator pulley halves and even after I switched to a 900mm belt.

Then I painted the steering wheel with engine enamel because whatever the paint was on it before sucked.

(good luck with that VR6 cooling system, GMATech, will the diameter of that pipe over such a long traverse be large enough to maintain critical no-boiling-allowed pressure within the cylinder head at whatever volume is required?)

Bashr52 - no not kidding. What would I be kidding about?

The vr6 is naturally a hot motor, 6 holes in one head. It came with an aux coolant pump from the factory(and a second radiatior in the fender). I can always add another aux pump in my pipe if I need to. As with most home made cooling systems there will be some trial and error, but with plenty of airflow through the massive rad I plan to put on. Plus the volume of coolant needed to fill the system, it's gonna be fine. Will probably take forever to get heat in the winter time.

Also, what are the provisions for heat expansion on that long fore-aft run? That pipe will grow by about an eighth of an inch as it warms to operating temperature.

When was the last time black iron pipe was used on an automotive cooling system?

We'll see, please share your results.

30 feet of 1" steel pipe with sharp-angle fittings is a different animal from a few feet of 1.25" smooth rubber hose, auxiliary pump or not. You might consider experimenting with hoses before cutting up the body and committing to rigid pipe.

You could mount a blow-off valve to that rear-facing nipple and then mount a steam whistle to that for a temperature gauge.

That's a choice. There's no downside to asking for assistance. There are people who are willing to help, some of whom are experts and make real money doing what they'll share with you for free. All it costs is a little ego control (and indulgence of their humor).

I really like that steam whistle idea . . . that would cut through the Grateful Dead and the pot haze blocking the temperature gauge.
