I gutted her! installing some sound deadening/insulation. After seeing the cabinetry conditioning, I may rebuild them from better wood instead of just putting on new laminate. What a project!

How easy does that sound material come off? It looks sticky.
I like the fresh original paint under there and wondered how easy this stuff would come off if someone wanted to reverse it.
Your bus is looking great. Summer is coming! Very Happy

it sticks very well, even just setting it in place before going over it with the roller it can be hard to pull up to adjust it. I would not want to have to pull it all out once it is rolled on. but hopefully it will make it a quieter ride and I wont want to pull it up Smile

Found a little extra time between life today to work on my 69 Bus. Removed front wheels, inspected/cleaned brakes, removed/replaced the grease seals, cleaned and repacked the inner/outer bearings and installed a new speedo-cable. Spun her around the block and got the usual thumbs up! Got to love the VW life!

Pretty much the finished project for the left side pipe hole. Only thing when it's final assembly time is the pipe will be painted probably silver and the gap in the trim will be hidden behind the pipe. But the pipe is mounted solid and the hole accommodates the pipe and trim.

Much hilarity ensues, although it would be funnier if pipe guy were actually playing a joke on us.

Last weekend got a lot done. Drag link, tie rods, steering damper, sand and paint pop top, new seals and logos. For the roof I followed methods used by samba members. couple grits of sanding and 3 thin coats of rustoleum enamel gloss white. hardware, seals and logos from GoWesty.

Today I took a drive up to Wyoming to do some camping with a fellow bus owner. I normally drive the bus up in the mountains so the mixture needs to be adjusted when driving in lower elevations. My table top was sitting on the rear cushion above the engine hatch so I removed it and set it outside the bus on the side of the road. After making my adjustments, I got back in the bus and proceeded to drive another hour and a half to our destination. Once I started to set up camp, I realized my table was still sitting on the side of the road 70 miles back. After expressing my anger through numerous curse words, I made the trip back only to find my table missing. I'm a dumbass.

I laugh and cringe at the same time only because my dumb ass is personally familiar with similar scenarios.
Argh... So frustrating...

Just finished the first stage of a solar install on our 79. Ton of fun [and a big thanks to Hodokaguy's schematics and build ideas!]. Used it at 40's in a bag the previous weekend and enjoyed running my fridge constantly and charging my I devices.

I had the windshield and rear hatch window removed. Sanded down old rust on bottom edge of window seal. Prepping for brand new windshield install. Also, sanded down dash for repaint before installing window. Removed flaky rubber mat on seat pedestals.

Thank goodness it is a no smog county cuz we developed a huge exhaust leak on the drive...looks like a new exhaust is in our future. Any suggestions for vendors/sytems? Anybody with experience in a 2.0 L FI exhaust?

It could be worse - pulled up next to this guy belching beautiful green, sweet-smelling fluid... Air-cooled does have its benefits every once in a while!
