What the buyer is willing to pay and what the owner is willing to sell for is what they are worth...Just right now, the buyers are willing to pay that price for those name brand 'original' wheels. Rareity is another price increaser. Check out the prices for Cosmics...
They don't make originals anymore  !!! That's why they are ORIGINAL!!!
My original 914 2.0 Porsche Fuchs are pretty much the same price as the reproductions. That's ok with me as I wanted and like the originals much more. Personal opinion only as it should be. BTW, the offset of originals is much better than the repops and will allow a wider tire to fit without rubbing. Same price as repops with better tire clearance???

I've owned magnesium American Torquethrust wheels (chevy pattern). They get so corroded looking you'll need to glassbead them every 6 months!  |

I used soda blasting though.
Before...
After....
Those are the same wheels Gibbs has for sale now.
They look like they are already getting darker just over a year after cleaning them.

it's like this: who would imagine that humble VWs and their loyal following would ever turn into mad money changing hands? but yet it is doing just that. some people understand the rarity and don't get scared by crazy money like that. who here has laid out over $10K for a VW? how bout $20K? how bout $30K? how bout $40K? how bout $100K? they are out there, most people don't hear about it because those deals go down quietly. you've seen the cars and can appreciate them. these are some rare and desireable cars. early buses, barndoors, hebmullers, coachbuilts like rometchs, dannenhauer and staus, crazy stuff. who can understand that tempo matador selling for $100K? that had people all over the world pointing and laughing. guess what?! it SOLD!
