The rooftop rack fooled you? That's a tintop? |
My bad... seems I am succumbing to the weight of Westy'ness being all around me, and the rack sent a subliminal message to me? _________________ Don't harsh my mellow...

We just rolled into Florence Oregon and immediately saw three hopped up syncros (including CV Bill's rig). The kids are counting vans and bugs, and the tally is currently 57 of the former and 43 of the latter. Pretty sure I saw VanWilder's rig yesterday, just west of Portland on 26
[update: I think we saw Bman's Doka while in Coos Bay. Currently in N. Cal and not seeing too many VWs of any kind. Our count is just over 80 of each variety]
We're driving the Quattro, so in stealth Vanagon mode. Green C4 Avant w/silver Yakima cargo box _________________ Casey--

I have the chrome trim on my '84 Westy. It's a base model, so always thought that was kind of interesting.
Anyone know why and when that was added?
I want to install my postal flares, but have been hesitant to get rid of the chrome since it seems kind of rare...! _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

Saw this one on my way to work yesterday near Massapequa. I think this is the 3rd one that i have seen in NY this year. The 1st one was this one http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1599972 in the spring and the 2nd one was in Smallwood a week ago.

I should really do a photo tour of the vans of my hometown. There is literally a Westy, Eurovan, or Syncro every couple blocks! It's crazy, I never noticed them until I became an owner but now they seem to be everywhere. There are 3 vans I know of on my block alone! _________________ 1991 Vanagon Carat- Bordeaux red

Here are some pix of vans we saw during our recent trip to the Adirondacks and back. First we stopped in Stuarts Draft VA for gas and for a Vanagon fix at the Nethken shop just in case we would not be seeing any more vans this trip.
Turned out to be unnecessary, since the very next stop netted this one in Harrisonburg VA. We stopped for ice cream, he had stopped for parts.
First night we only got as far as the C&O Canal Towpath Park along the Potomac River. Saw this one parked at the Cushwa Basin while looking for camping. VA plate says BUS ZEN.
Then saw this one while lost and still looking for camping a little later that same evening.
Next day stopped for lunch in Scranton PA at Chick’s Diner and while walking the dog around the block found this one near the diner.
This one was parked in a yard north of Saranac Lake NY.
This one turned up on the back loop of the Ausable Point SP camping area near Plattsburgh NY.
Karen spotted this one. I had missed it and she let me go back for a pic. Near Lake George.
This one was spotted while pulling into a rest area on I-87. Two ladies from Montreal were having a hot start issue but it did fire up while we were there and off they went. I’ve seen pix of this type storage setup but never one in the actual fiberglass. Also note the deeply dished steelies.
I saw this guy coming in PA (or was it in NY?) and we traded headlight flashes.
Saw three others but was not quick enough to get photos. A maroon Westy in Lake Placid, a bright green (grass green, Kermit green!) Westy zoomed past the end of our on ramp on I-81 southbound near Harrisburg PA. I thought if he had a stock WBX I could catch him but he must have had a swap because he was GONE! Then on the last leg home on 522 near Mineral VA we saw a nice maroon hardtop oncoming. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

Neighbor's Weekender. He was walking in the 'hood soon after we moved in and flagged us down in our Westy and told us he had this one. First time I've had a camera with me when his van's been out of the garage. Saw it coming and could not react in time, but he got stopped by the light and I managed this snap.

Live in Durango, Co. They're all over the place. Picked my kid up from daycare and saw another dad picking up his kid in his white Syncro. Love this place. |

I was up in Maine and saw several westy's up there. One was for sale on the side of the road. I stopped to check it out. Brown 85 needs a little work. 8 G's is the asking price. Paint was OK, no rot, and the poptop had some patches. I didn't check the listings here but it is an automatic and sits just outside of rangeley. I saw a couple up in bar harbor and they were nice enough to wave. There was also a red late 80's headed down the road in Stratton. Sure does make me smile when I m out having great times traveling in Wilson and we see others out doing the same. _________________ [email protected] 84 Westy 1.9 waterboxer > 2001 Legacy 2.5L sohc w/ subarugears 5MT Ty754 |

We celebrated our anniversary yesterday by driving up to Annapolis MD for lunch. While heading east on U.S. 50 to the exit at Kent Narrows to reach the restaurant I spotted a familiar profile across the road.
We stopped for a closer look on the way back and to ask about it. “Not for sale,” is what the lady at the garage’s desk told me. Pretty battered looking Westy. Probably not an undented panel on it and the canvas looks to be in tatters. It has a Wolfsburg badge on it in that large crinkled area.

Being here in Yellowstone, at Old Faithful, and driving in and out of the park, I lose track of how many I see. If it weren't such a process to get pics on here I would post them. _________________ Live Fulltime in motorhome
