I finally created an account just to post this cool panel van we saw in Calgary today. I wish we would have had time to stick around and chat! It had Austrian plates, and it looked like they had already been through the US from the stickers.

This one has been around town for a long time, an '82 diesel Country Homes Camper. It's always been at this house, to my knowledge, but for the rare times I've seen it being driven.

Last summer me n the kiddos did 2500 miles in our tintop from Texas to Florida, up into Tennessee, then back to Texas and saw 2 vanagons the whole trip. We just got back from Disneyworld, once again from Texas to Florida and back and did not see a single vanagon. Hopefully next summer when we head up into Colorado we can make up for the last 2 trips! _________________ 1986 Hightop w/EJ25 DOHC & 4EAT auto

Was in Seattle last week for a client and saw 5 Vanagon and one bay.
Came home Friday and drive up to Conway NH, and saw 5 Vanagons and one bay. What are the odds?
Conway - grey one buzzing by Zebs, ivory one with two ladies (we caught up and waved at each other), a white one on Kancamagus along with an orange bay, Brown one in Lincoln and a blue one driving through North Conway. _________________ Its a mistress; an expensive, whiney, needy bitch of a mistress. Big Island Vanagons.
Took a flying trip last week and during our island vacation I spotted a few vans I thought you'd like to see.
Actually met this fellow our first morning on the island. He pulled over right after this to take a cell phone call and I stopped to chat with him. Diesel.
Saw this one on the climb to Akaka Falls. Does not appear to be in use if someone wants to check it out.
Saw this Syncro near the top of the climb to the Hawaii Vanilla Company.
Saw this one along the east coast on our roundabout way to the Volcanoes National Park. Soon after seeing this one I missed getting a photo of a white tintop with alloys in Pahoa.
Saw none in the park or along that shore nor near South Point and it was not until reaching the west (Kona) side that I saw more. Missed getting a pic of a tan tintop and almost missed this one during rain near dusk.
In the Kailua area.
This one surprised me in Waimea, turned the corner before I could get a snap.
Back in Kona I saw this one.
And this one right around the corner from it.
Also in Kailua, this may be the nicest Vanagon I've seen being driven; not a scratch and the thing sparkled, it was so clean. It's a shame it does not show so cleanly in the photos but "sano" is what old hot rodders would say about this one.
My wife saw this one go by during supper one night but I missed a pic, and caught it near the beach the next day.
Exiting the post office lot in Hawi. I think I recognize this one from Samba posts; the light bar on the grille and the black paint on the rockers strike me as familiar.
Hilo again during our last full day. This one also looks like it's resting.
And we saw this one on our last morning while killing time before heading for the airport.
Aloha, y'all.

I actually found a second one while going to investigate a diesel van lead the other day. I always thought they were pretty neat but I'd rather have a Vixen with the BMW turbo diesel engine.
Saw some vans in the San Francisco area during a stopover on our return from Hawaii. I actually saw lots of them but my camera crapped out and I had to rely on the phone camera, which does not permit me to be as speedy in getting shots when surprised by suddenly appearing vans. Did my best.
First was this one in Petaluma. Actually saw it twice before finding it stopped at a brewpub and getting this shot.
Petaluma.
Sonoma.
Sonoma.
San Francisco.
South San Francisco at the Van-O-Rama.
Petaluma again.

Interesting....That's a 1985 only color but with 1986 and later headlamp set up. I've never studied this, but I guess the transition for color & for other options must have been a pretty soft line....... _________________ 89 Tristar Syncro Doka - White

It's also possible an owner of an '85 liked the later headlight setup and switched them out. It's more common to find round lights on a later van than rectangular lights on an early one, but it's been done. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

I had one of those ('85). It was Canadian. The top was double thickness, and heavy, and it had a gasoline heater (underneath) that sounded like a jet engine. I put an EJ22 in it back in 1999 when Kennedy was the MAN! I waxed it and it sold it to a guy who lived in Nevada City, CA. He about wet his pants when he saw it - didn't mention the dents at all. He said it was so much nicer than his Westy, he was stoked.
