I am looking for a good diesel mechanic in the Bay Area with mechanical diesel pump expertise. I have a 1.9L with a 1.6NA overhauled t injection pump but i cannot get the amount fuel out on the just overhauled pump.
I believe the lever was not set correctly. Anyone knows someone with experience?
Thank you. |

Can’t recommend a place, but a Bosch Diesel Injection Center would have a Dyno that they can run your pump and measure delivery. We have 2 Bosch centers in our area. When I would get a pump back, they were correct.
Two thoughts. Did you prime the pump? I have a gravity feed cup to supply fuel till I get it bled completely and running. Second, have you reached out the the rebuilder? Seems if they are in the business, they’d want to make you whole.
Two other thoughts. The 1.6 pump can be externally timed 180 out accidentally. The sprocket has 2 holes for the pin. You need to use the pin hole that puts the notch in the backside of the sprocket on top. Also, it’s possible to accidentally interchange the supply and return banjo bolts. Both would let the engine start an idle and not run out. You only make that mistake once. _________________ ☮️ |

If you google "san francisco bay bosch diesel repair". Found a few in Oakland, SF, etc. _________________ '90 Westy / automatic.

Hi Mike!
The delivery valves can be a big pita to re-prime when they're dry, takes forever!!
The best way I found is drive the pump with a drill with the timing belt off.
Also check that the banjos to your fuel filter housing (if you have the first generation screw on filter) are not plugged with rust. It is VERY common and it obviously limits the available flow of diesel.
